The 16th Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), Taiwan’s most important indie music award, will be held at Taipei Trendy Music Center on Saturday, November 1st.
This year, the theme is “Brave” and emphasizes the core value of creative activities as a battle against fear. They say they support musicians who are brave and are not influenced by trends and are loyal to themselves. All awards are currently being accepted. The Best Asian Creative Artist Award, which mainly targets works from Asian countries, accepts entries from overseas regardless of music style or language, and encourages music creators from around the world to actively participate.
Hosted by the Taiwan Culture Department of Film, TV and Trend Music Industry Bureau, GIMA has played an important role in fostering Taiwan’s diverse and vibrant indie music scene for many years. The Best Asian Creative Artist Award aims to provide a venue for more creative artists and bands in Asia and to promote the connection and fusion of Taiwan’s popular music on the international stage.
The award’s past winners and nominees span a wide range of styles and regions, demonstrating the richness and global potential of Asian music. The iconic Korean band Silica Gel, Indonesian hip-hop pioneer Rich Brian, the leaders of a new school that swept the world with the appeal of live performances that combine tradition with street style, Korean-American hip-hop singer Audrey Nuna, Rina Sawayama, who has entered the Western music world with his unique image, and CHAI, a band with a unique charm, have been recognized so far.
At last year’s awards ceremony, Kitani Tatsuya from Japan, folk singer Lee Lang from Korea (Lang Lee), and rapper SINCE, who finished second in the popular hip-hop show “SHOW ME THE MONEY.” In addition, with King Gnu and ALI presenters in the past, GIMA has become an important international event and is indispensable in the Asian music industry.

This year marks the 16th year of GIMA. It appears to have reached a transition from teenagers to twenties, and symbolizes self-change, while also reflecting the maturation of Taiwan’s entire musical creation. The theme of “Brave” focuses on how creators coexist with fear and transform their creation into actions that combat fear. Musicians who are not trapped in trends, remain faithful to themselves, and are not afraid of their true selves, practice the spirit of “Brave is the new normal” through their works.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Best Asian Creative Artist Award until Tuesday, July 1st. Asian music creators and groups other than Taiwanese nationality can apply without restrictions on language or genre.
