The music project CRYPT CHROME is now in full swing. It has been announced that their first sound source, “natsu no yoru feat. Kitamura Tsubame,” will be released on Wednesday, July 2nd.
CRYPT CHROME is a project that explores the boundaries between acoustic and electronic, combining harmony, improvisation and Japanese melodies inspired by South American music and contemporary jazz. The production focuses on bassist Konishi Yuka and guitarist Fukuroku Atsushi, and is based on the concept of “music variants,” and the performance members are fluidly composed of each song, including vocals.
The project name CRYPT CHROME also comes from the Greek word “κρυπτοσ (Cryptos chromos)” = “hidden color,” and is based on the desire to pursue unknown musical colors.
The first single, “natsu no yoru feat. Kitamura Tsubame,” is said to be a song written in the lyrics, inspired by the Japanese summer customs, and imagining the fictional experience of someone wandering around on a beautiful summer night. The base is based on the composition of a grand piano, upright bass, acoustic guitar, and drum set, but it also has an electronic approach, with fuzz sounds from electric guitars, drone sounds using effects on upright basses, insect sounds from field recordings, and samplings made by editing recorded percussion instruments.
Support members are Masaki Yasunao (Pf.) and Takahashi Naoki (Ds.). The guest vocalist features SSW’s Kitamura Tsubasa. The two also designed the designs themselves for this work. The artwork was done by Konishi, and the teaser footage was done by Fukuroku.

In addition, a release party for this work will be held at Ebisu BLUE NOTE PLACE in Tokyo on Monday, July 28th. Also check it out.
[CRYPT CHROME Comments]
“Natsu no Yoru” was inspired by Japanese summer customs such as Obon and summer festivals, and the song is about a wandering “that girl” who wandered into the story, scared by the invisible presence (ghosts, etc.), and had a mysterious and strange summer night experience. The acoustic sound begins with an arpeggio of acoustic guitars that blew in the night breeze, the unison of instrumental melody on vocals and wood-bass, and the chorus that sways the body based on the rhythm of Shoro, and the members’ solos and the ending feature a drone sound with effects on wood-bassed Arco, creating a drone sound, with an electric and bold sound. The lyrics were written by Keinayo, who was the vocalist for 2nd single, and Kitamura Tsubame was also written by vocalist. It took a long time for the song to be drafted from the melody to become a song, but I am very pleased that through the arrangement of Guitar Fukuroku, the performances of the musicians who participated, and the sound makeup of engineer Mukai, the engineer, we are able to deliver the first song to you more than I imagined. To celebrate the release, we are planning to hold Lilipa on Blue Note Place on Monday, July 28th, so please come and visit us! (Konishi)
