Umei Misaki releases new song "Tear.:*+" for the first time vocal work by singing herself

Pianist/composer Umei Misaki released her new single, “Tear.:*+” today, Wednesday, June 25th.

This is the first vocal work he sang himself, and is a self-produced song that he has worked on everything from lyrics, composition and arrangement to mixing and mastering. On Wednesday, July 30th, they have also decided to release their first album, Asleep Above Creatures, under the name of a solo album, but this album is an “outside single” that will not be included in the album. It is a highly independent work with the intention of expanding the world of the work from a different angle from the main album.

Based on drum and bass, it combines improvised piano, classical compositions, and electronic sounds. Furthermore, this work combines the appeal of pop music with experimentality thanks to its unique lyric approach that makes use of the Japanese “onomatopoeia.” Umei’s flexible sensibility and skill are combined, and it can be said to be a song that shows his multifaceted talent as a pianist, vocalist and producer. The performance techniques cultivated through collaborations with Ishiwaka Shun and Geordie Greep are linked to track making and vocal expression at a high level.

Umei’s vocals, which are interwoven with inorganic textures and organic resonances, smoothly moving back and forth between autotune and live voice, bringing out a unique three-dimensionality and depth. The melody line, which combines lyricality and catchy, highlights the sound, and the result is deeply remembered by the listener.

The artist’s visual has also been completely redesigned to match the world of this work. Artist photos and artwork are handled by photographer Ryusei Kashiwakura. The picture, taken on a slope in Tokyo, coexists with a random composition and calculated visual balance, and corresponds to the concept of this work, which combines construction and freedom in music.

The aforementioned first album, Asleep Above Creatures, was newly written from last year to early 2025, and contains a total of 11 songs, ranging from piano solos, trio compositions and songs with strings to electronic tracks. It also includes a song he performed with Antonio Loureiro, and the album is said to have a distinctive approach that transcends genres.
