Daoko will release her new album “Slash-&-Burn” today, May 22nd (Wednesday). On the same day at 20:00, the music video for “Dakeshittene” will be premiered.
This is Daoko’s eighth album, released four years after her previous album “anima.” The title means “slash-and-burn” and expresses her desire to burn away the past and present and nurture new growth. Eleven of the twelve tracks are unreleased original songs, and Daoko has produced them herself, with the majority of the songs written and composed by her. The arrangements are by artists she respects, such as HIDEYA KOJIMA, DJ June, Nariaki Obukuro, GuruConnect, Maigo Hanyu, TAAR, Toyoaki Mishima, and Shokuhin Matsuri aka foodman.
The music video for “Throw It Away” was also ranked in “This Manga is Amazing!” and was illustrated and written by Tomo Kokotsu, a manga artist who has gained attention for works such as “Kamisama Kiseki” and whom Daoko herself admires. . Arranger Maigo Hanyu’s sonic expression, Daoko’s earnest lyrics, and Tomo Kokotsu’s unique worldview are mixed together to create a music video that exudes a sense of nostalgia and a beautiful sense of danger.
[Daoko’s comment]
This is my first album after starting my own agency and label. The music is a mixture of so many different kinds of music that even I can’t even define the genre of this album. Welcoming a respected artist, the finish is stronger and more vivid.
We paid particular attention to the feel of the sound, so we hope you enjoy the sound as well.
The lyrics have an atmosphere that can be called a return to the roots, and are extremely personal expressions. I feel like rap is also changing (I hope it’s evolving) little by little…
Making my first self-produced album was a great learning experience as I had many experiences that I didn’t know existed. It feels like my blood is running deep.
It’s filled with things I like, and I think of it like a treasure chest.
The title of this work, “Slash-&-Burn”, has the meaning of “slash-and-burn”.
Burn away the present and past and nurture new buds.
May each choice result in wonderful germination.
