Lil Woody’s Shibuya, located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is collaborating with Seattle-based long-established label Sub Pop Records. A poster exhibition and DJ party will be held.
Founded in 1988 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman, Sub Pop rose to fame in the ’90s by signing Seattle bands including Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney, and helped popularize grunge music. In 2020, they also attracted attention for signing a contract with the Japanese band CHAI.
Lil Woody’s Shibuya, on the other hand, is a hamburger shop that opened in August last year as the first Japanese store of Lil Woody’s Burgers & Shakes, which is also based in Seattle. On June 11th (Tuesday), the two parties will collaborate to display posters of past and present artists and rare concert posters, and on June 14th (Friday) there will be hamburgers, beer, and a DJ. A party will be held.
On that day, the “Sub Pop MEGA burger” will be sold, which is a 1/4 pound beef patty, miso aioli, egg, Gouda cheese, and arugula sandwiched between Lil Woody’s buns. This burger will also be sold at Lil Woody’s Seattle stores (Capitol Hill, Ballard, and White Center) from June 11th (Tuesday) to June 17th (Monday). This will be the second time that Lil Woody’s has offered a global burger special.
Additionally, to commemorate the collaboration between Lil Woody’s and Sub Pop, Lil Woody’s Shibuya will be selling two types of collaborative T-shirts and tote bags. Owner Marcus Lalario commented: “This is a monumental project for Lil Woody. Our focus on collaborating with like-minded brands and sharing cool projects aligns with the Sub Pop music community. We’re thrilled to bring this Seattle-inspired exhibit to Tokyo, and we think our burger fans will be thrilled to be able to experience a piece of American music history.”
