suL releases music video for single “shoegaze” from “niwa” directed by safmusic and Gen Miyagawa

The music video for suL’s single “shoegaze,” released in 2022, has been released.

SSW/producer suL, who attracted attention with her first EP “ivy” released in February. “Shoegaze” is a song that suL created under the strong influence of the overseas scene such as the movie “Call Me by Your Name”, Frank Ocean, and BROCKHAMPTON. It is also very popular with fans, and the music video has been released two years after the release.

The director is Gen Miyakawa, a video artist who also worked on the music videos for the collaborative song “August in the water” with suL, saf music, and One Boiling Point. This music video, created with the theme of “fragments of a non-existent movie,” is a work that challenges the characteristics of Western youth movies such as A24 to be incorporated into the Japanese culture.

It depicts the subtleties of emotions that everyone has felt at least once, such as the “liberation,” “speed,” or “sorrow” that are unique to adolescence. By attempting to resonate between the viewer’s experience and the video, it captures cinematic depth in the short time of a music video.
