YONA YONA WEEKENDERS released a surprise new single “Orange Moon feat. Ai Otsuka” today, Wednesday, June 12th. The lyric video was also released.
A program broadcast every Tuesday from 23:00 on interfm“Tokyo Disc Club”YONA YONA WEEKENDERS will be a regular DJ for three months from April. On the program that aired last night, Otsuka Ai appeared as a surprise guest. Usually, the four members introduce their favorite cultures, and Isono-kun (Vo.) performs an impromptu acoustic performance based on a theme, and the program is developed in a relaxed atmosphere that is characteristic of the program, but this time, the members were nervous from start to finish with the appearance of a huge guest. It was announced that a new song “Orange Moon” featuring Otsuka Ai as a guest vocalist will be released after the program ends.
This work is a ballad number that “tightens the heart” with vague memories that everyone has. In addition to her activities as a member of SSW, Ai Otsuka is an illustrator, picture book author, songwriter, and has recently begun to paint oil paintings in earnest. She is one of the artists who colored the youth of the YONA YONA WEEKENDERS members, and they have dreamed of working together. The collaboration was realized through a passionate love call from Isono-kun for the production of this work.
The program also talks about the thoughts behind the songs and how the collaboration came about, so if you missed it, be sure to tune in.radiko’s Time FreeCheck out the broadcast.
I like YONA YONA’s song “Ice Cream at the Sea” and I think it suits her perfectly, so I was very happy when I heard about it.
Orange Moon gives you the feeling of a summer night and a heart-warming story that makes you feel like you’re watching a movie, so I was able to layer my voice without any hesitation.
I wrote this song with the desire to cherish memories of the past that become blurred in our hectic days.
It’s a song that is a mixture of tenderness and sadness, and when the demo was completed, the image of Ai Otsuka’s singing voice, especially in ballads, came to mind, so I thought it would be great if we could sing together… and made her an offer.
Otsuka’s powerful yet delicate singing voice brings vivid color to this song.
Now, listening to Orange Moon again, my heart is filled with emotion. It has become a song that is truly important to me!
The lyric video released to coincide with the release was directed by Tomohiro Kotobuki (Focha!), a video artist who has been expressing the world of YONA YONA WEEKENDERS’ music since the early days of their activities, including the artwork for their first EP “Night and Album,” the artist visuals from that time, and the lyric videos for “Tokyo Midnight Cruising Club,” “Eying,” and “Good bye.” The video is full of emotion, and uses motion blur to film Isono-kun’s nighttime journey from his hometown of Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture to Tokyo.
In addition, details of the second album “LIVE” scheduled to be released on Wednesday, July 24th, which will include this song, have also been released. The artwork is designed with a simple title logo on the night sky seen during the artist visual shoot, and is said to have been created to evoke the image of this album being part of the listener’s everyday life, just like looking up at the sky in your daily life. The titles of the songs included in the album range from “If I can go, I’ll go” and “Just eat and sleep,” which are typical of Yona Yona and make you chuckle just by reading them, to exciting titles such as “30,” which is reminiscent of the popular song “15” from the band’s early days. The limited edition will come with a special live CD containing the recording of their solo live performance in April of this year. Reservations are currently being accepted for this CD.
Tickets for the nationwide tour to promote the album are also on sale. The first day’s performance at UNiT in Daikanyama, Tokyo has already sold out. A new performance in Taiwan has also been announced, so be sure to check that out too.
