Ryobu Karma, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, and Shito announce the first stage of classical x hip-hop collaboration performance

A concert/live performance that fuses classical music and hip-hop, “Symphonic Rap ~ Uncharted territory that classical music and rap challenge ~” will be held at Suntory Hall in Tokyo on Wednesday, July 17th.

This performance brings together classical music and hip-hop, two musical genres that have no connection and are difficult to imagine intersecting. Participating rappers will rhyme against the backdrop of a full orchestra’s live “track.” Beethoven once wrote the Ninth Ode to Joy based on Schiller’s poem, and Debussy wrote many pieces based on Mallarmé’s poems. Rappers are modern day poets. In this performance, rappers will take on an exciting experiment in digging up words from classical songs and spinning them out. The project is planned and produced by Reiko Yuyama, an author, producer, and chatty culture monster who runs the project “Bakukura,” which proposes a new way of listening to classical music.

In the first announcement, Ryobu Karma, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, and Shito were announced. From the classical music world, we will be facing Keitaro Harada, a representative young conductor who is active around the world. The performance will be performed by Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo. By the way, Shito’s “2nd movement from Beethoven/Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92” by Shihito, and “Last scene from the movie “Akitsu Onsen” by Mitsu Hayashi by Naruyoshi Kikuchi, have been decided. are doing.

This is a fusion of disparate genres held at Suntory Hall, the temple of the classical music world, which is an away environment for rappers. Don’t miss out on this precious night.

[Reiko Yuyama comment]

Imagine a solo concert in which an opera singer sings with an orchestra in the background, but the singing part has been transformed into a rap style. Depending on the worldview of the rhyme (poetry), an expression similar to a mono opera may be established. Keitaro Harada, a globally active conductor with a reputation for opera, will connect the two genres with his tact.
Symphonic rap is an exciting music scene where wordless classical music acquires new resonance from the words of rappers in accordance with the sensibilities of the times.
