The track list for the “Kaiju No. 8 Original Soundtrack,” which will be released on Wednesday, June 26th, as well as the participating artists, product display photos, and bonus illustrations have been made public.
“Kaiju No. 8” is a hugely popular comic by Naoya Matsumoto that has garnered support from both within Japan and overseas. It has also been made into an anime by Production IG (animation production) and Studio Color (Kaiju Design & Works), and has been broadcast on TV Tokyo and other networks since April this year.
The music is handled by Bando Yudai, who is active as a contemporary classical composer while also expanding his field of activity to arranging the top scenes of J-POP. The soundtrack, which consists of 64 songs, includes the “Kaiju No. 8 Theme” that plays symbolically in the movie, “Kaiju Rock” with Sasaki “Kojiro” Takayuki (Gt.), King Gnu’s Arai Kazuki (Ba.), and Ishiwaka Shun (Dr.) as part of the project name “THE KAIJU BAND”, “Hoshino Theme” co-written with track maker MON/KU, “Sagamihara Extermination Operation” that condenses the ensemble power of Bando’s orchestra “Ensemble FOVE”, and “Scream feat. (sic)boy” and “Warcry feat. Okazaki Taiiku” as songs in the movie. The final song on the album is “Never Break Down”, which is used in the touching scene in episode 10 where Kaiju No. 8 saves the Japan Defense Force’s 3rd Unit from a critical situation, and LEO Imai is on vocals and provides the English lyrics.
In addition to LEO Imai, the song “Kikoru’s Theme – Extended ver.” used in episode 9 was co-produced by Patrick Paige II of The Internet, with participation from American rapper Suni MF, and was produced by a luxurious line-up that also included Kimishima Sora (Gt.) and Umei Misaki (Key.).
A diverse range of songs and artists from across genres came together to create the musical world of the anime “Kaiju No. 8,” with additional recordings made specifically for the soundtrack and the mix completely redone, resulting in a truly impressive musical work.
The product specifications have also been released, with a special package that comes with a sleeve case with the number 8 logo cut out. The manufacturer’s bonus logo sticker uses the artwork design from the pre-release release and comes in six random designs.
