Lee Hee-mun is one of Korea’s leading folk singers, but he has also always incorporated a variety of musical genres without being bound by tradition. His new project, OBSG (Obangshingwa), will be performing in Japan.
Lee Hee-mun has collaborated with many artists and continues to play music that transcends genres, earning him the nickname “the maverick of the Korean classical music world.” In June 2023, he performed in Tokyo with the free session band CADEJO, leaving a strong impression with his powerful stage performance.
OBSG is a special band consisting of 10 members, formed by the band Heosongsewol, the central figure of the roots reggae band NST & The Soul Sauce, which has also performed at Fuji Rock, and the singer duo NomNom. Based on traditional folk music, they seamlessly fuse reggae, disco, funk, rock, and blues to create a psychedelic world of “neo-minyo.”
Just like the concept of “something like sparkling, sexy sequins,” as implied by the title of their latest album “SPANGLE,” released in 2023, we can expect a performance that will transform the floor into a dance hall.
OBSG recently performed in Germany and France, and will be heading out on a large-scale tour in Korea this fall. On their Japan tour, they will appear at the “Hashinoshita World Music Festival -SOUL BEAT ASIA 2024-” to be held in Toyota, Aichi from Friday, September 13th to Sunday, September 15th, and will also hold a solo performance at Shibuya WWW in Tokyo on Tuesday, September 17th. In addition, a special performance is planned just for the Tokyo performance. Let’s look forward to further news.
