Produced by Katsuhiro Otomo, Geino Yamashirogumi’s “AKIRA REMIX” will be released in August.

The animated film “AKIRA,” which celebrated its 35th anniversary last year and continues to inspire the world, has announced that “AKIRA REMIX,” produced entirely by the creator, Katsuhiro Otomo, will be released on Wednesday, August 21st.

It has been 35 years since the theatrical animated film “AKIRA”, directed by the writer Katsuhiro Otomo himself, was released in 1988. The original work, with music by Geino Yamashiro-gumi (head: Shoji Yamashiro), created a dense, stateless sound, becoming a legendary work that continues to have a great influence both in Japan and abroad. Then, in 2016, it was released in ultra-high quality high-resolution = hypersonic high-resolution sound source (Ultra Deep Hyper High Resolution “Symphonic Suite AKIRA 2016”), and in 2017, the analog record “Akira – Symphonic Suite” based on the ultra-deep hyper high-resolution sound source was released by the US label Milan Records. In 2020, more than 30 years after its release, the “AKIRA 4K Remaster Set”, which was remastered in 4K and remixed with 5.1ch sound under the direction of music director Shoji Yamashiro, was released on Blu-ray and the 4K remastered version was also released in theaters.

In 2022, Katsuhiro Otomo will publish the complete collection “OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS” (Kodansha), which he himself planned and produced. As part of this, the “Katsuhiro Otomo Complete Works AKIRA Cel Art Exhibition” will be held at Ikebukuro Mixalive Tokyo and Osaka Parco Gallery in August and October 2023. The AKIRA remix soundtrack “AKIRA REMIX,” which was only played at the venue, will be commercialized for the first time.

This remix of “AKIRA” produced by Katsuhiro Otomo himself was remixed by three musicians selected by Otomo himself: Makoto Kubota, Yasuharu Konishi, and Kuniaki Hiijima. The artwork was also completely produced and drawn by Otomo.
