Tokyo indie/alternative rock project Bearwear has announced that they will release the EP “ever_changing” featuring 2.5-dimensional artist Yuka Nagase on all songs on Wednesday, July 31st. In addition, the lead single “Basilisk” was released today, Wednesday, July 3rd.
Bearwear, who started out in the Tokyo band scene with a musical style of emo and dream pop, has recently shifted to a DIY production system centered on home recording, such as digicore/bedroom pop. Meanwhile, Nagase Yuka is an artist who works on both the two-dimensional (digital) and three-dimensional (physical) axes. She appears as a virtual artist composed of 3DCG and illustrations, and as a real artist in the real world (live-action), and she uses different forms and methods of expression to expose herself depending on the medium.
The two groups first met when Nagase Yuka, a big reptile lover, came across a past music video by Bearwear featuring a lizard and came across it on social media. The lead single “Basilisk” was produced a year and a half later when Bearwear approached her about collaborating. Inspired by the reptiles that were the reason they met, the song is themed on the mythical giant snake “basilisk,” and is a pop tune that combines the image of a snake that repeatedly sheds its skin and changes its appearance with the image of Nagase Yuka, who is freed from physical constraints in the virtual world.
The video has great taste and even includes a bearded dragon.

The artwork and visual direction will be handled by the up-and-coming new media artist JACKSON kaki. The music video will be released at a later date, so please look forward to the follow-up news.
