Rapper kou-kei releases self-produced new song “Classic Summer” today

Saga-born rapper kou-kei released his new single “Classic Summer” today, Wednesday, July 10th.

Kou-kei is known for his collaborations with SUKISHA, Zettakun, Mashoe’, Riku Oshima, and others. This song expresses the nostalgic summer vacations that Kou-kei experienced as a student in the mid-Heisei period. The depiction of the somewhat dangerous summer scenery unique to the middle caste shines through, making it a work that preserves the culture of the mid-Heisei period.

In terms of sound, he was influenced by the early to mid-Heisei era game sounds, Frutiger Aero, drum and bass, and jungle, which were in keeping with the historical context of the time. The synths that evoke the clear skeleton of Heisei retro and the drums that are full of speed are somehow nostalgic and sad, and the sound is impressive, as if students who have just entered their summer vacation have exploded with energy, like cicadas.

This is the first work in which kou-kei has handled everything from the tracks, mix, mastering, and artwork himself.
