Matt Cab, vividboooy, and DALU arrange the theme song for "GTO" "POISON" into a hip-hop arrangement

“GTO Revival,” starring Takashi Sorimachi, was revived as a special drama for the first time in 26 years in April this year. Inspired by the broadcast of this drama, which attracted attention with the appearance of all the original cast members, music producer Matt Cab has officially arranged the theme song “POISON” sung by BLUE ENCOUNT and Takashi Sorimachi, and it was released today, Wednesday, July 24th.

This work boldly samples the impressive guitar phrases and chorus vocals of the original song, fusing them with hip-hop beats such as drill and trap. With the participation of two rappers, vividboooy and DALU, who have produced a series of street hits, a powerful hip-hop arrangement has been completed. It was released as an official sampled song, which is unusual.

I am very honored to be involved in the official remake of POISON. GTO is a symbolic drama of that time, so I decided to rewatch the entire previous work for inspiration. Combining Sorimachi’s voice with two special artists of our time, vividboooy and DALU, was a very unique puzzle. I wanted to keep the message and feeling of the original song while incorporating both “retro” and “modern” elements in a balanced way so that it would resonate with a new generation of listeners. I hope that all generations who listen to this version will feel the “sense of freedom” and the “great energy” that we felt in the studio!

I am very grateful to have been able to be involved in such a legendary work in this way. I felt that there were common social issues between the time when the drama GTO was first aired and now. I think that what we can do is to throw something at society through music, so I put a message in the song that says, “Let’s spit out our poison (negative emotions)!”
