Newtro, a “revival” music project that reconstructs Japan’s most famous songs, has released the music video for their 17th song, “Aim to be a Pokémon Master x Sumia feat. Asagi.”

The song being revived this time is Matsumoto Rika’s seventh single “Aim to be a Pokemon Master,” released in 1997. Widely known as the opening theme for the first installment of the globally popular TV anime series “Pokemon,” this legendary masterpiece has been recreated by up-and-coming Vocaloid producer Sumia, featuring singer Asagi on vocals. Hao created the illustrations for the music video.

Additionally, an interview with Sumia will be aired on MUSIC ON! TV’s “Newtro” on July 18th.

■Comment from Sumia
Pokemon is a series I’ve loved since childhood, from the games and cards to the anime and movies, and among them, I chose the most representative works that come to mind when I think of Pokemon.
I think I first heard it when I was in kindergarten, and I still sing it at karaoke and it makes me feel like a kid again when I listen to it, so I think it’s one of the all-time great songs that never goes out of style.
The track is packed with Sumia’s signature fast-tempo and cool elements, spanning various genres such as EDM→Drill→Kawaii Future Bass→Trap→Trance→Dance Pop→Phonk→Hard Style, and also features Pokémon-related melodies sprinkled throughout, making it a fun 3 minutes to listen to.
I want everyone around the world who was a child that day to listen to this.
