Haruomi Hosono releases visualizer for “PLEOCENE” track from his masterpiece “omni Sight Seeing”

■’Omni Sight Seeing’ is a pioneering masterpiece of world music by Hosono Haruomi!

As the second part of the “Hosono Haruomi Album Birthday Project,” part of the Hosono Haruomi 55th anniversary project that will begin in the fall of 2024, a visualizer for the track “PLEOCENE” from Hosono Haruomi’s pioneering world music album “Omni Sight Seeing” has been released.

“Omni Sight Seeing,” released by EPIC Records on July 21, 1989, is the culmination of the “tourist music” that Hosono Haruomi, a world music pioneer who traveled around the world at the time, set out in the late 1980s. It is a masterpiece of electronic pop that incorporates elements of music from around the world, from Japanese folk songs to Arab and Latin American music, making it feel like you are traveling the world through music.

The “PLEOCENE” visualizer is a visualisation by Takeru Shima of the album jacket artwork, beautifully expressing the world view of this album.

Sato Yusuke’s “omni Sight Seeing BIRTHDAY PLAYLIST” has been released. Sato Yusuke, a member of Camera = Fountain Pen and a keyboardist, composer, arranger, and producer who has worked in a wide range of fields, including as a support member for Skirt and Moonriders, has selected songs by Hosono Haruomi based on the theme of “the outskirts of the omni Sight Seeing frontier.”

■ Comment from Yusuke Sato
The static yet infinitely expanding sound world of “omni Sight Seeing” is something I have always longed for. When it was released in 1989, bands such as Soul II Soul and De La Soul, and rock bands such as The Stone Roses and Nirvana made their debuts, and new techno movements were emerging in Chicago and Detroit. Even when you imagine the music map of that time, you can imagine that Hosono’s music was a singularity not only in Japan but also around the world.
Centered around the “frontier” of “omni Sight Seeing,” we have selected 10 of Hosono’s songs with the theme of “around the frontier,” including HASYMO’s “RESCUE,” which gives a sense of spiritual connection, and “Retort – Vu Ja De ver.”, a vocal version of which was recorded about 30 years after its release.
