YOASOBI’s “Gunjo” x the original manga and movie “Blue Period” heartwarming collaboration special video released

■YOASOBI’s “Gunjo,” inspired by the manga “Blue Period,” is a collaboration between the original work and the movie “Blue Period”!

The movie “Blue Period” will be released nationwide on August 9th.

A special video has been released that features the hit song “Gunjo” sung by YOASOBI, which was inspired by the manga “Blue Period,” in collaboration with the original manga and the movie “Blue Period.”

The movie “Blue Period” tells the story of Yaguchi Yatora (Maeda Gordon), a boy who leads an empty school life, balancing both his studies and play while reading the moods of those around him, but who then encounters a certain painting, becomes immersed in the world of art, and strives to get into Tokyo University of the Arts.

The footage transitions from iconic scenes from the original work to the film’s footage, and it creates an emotional video showing Maeda Gordon as Yato, Takahashi Fumiya as Yato’s classmate Yuka-chan (Ayukawa Ryuji), Itagaki Rihito as Takahashi Setasuke, and Sakurada Hiyori as Morimaru, along with images of the characters from the original work.

■ How the project came to fruition
“Gunjo” was written by YOASOBI, a “unit that creates songs from novels,” based on the novel “Blue Period” which was born from a collaboration project between the manga “Blue Period” and Bourbon’s “Alfort.” It is one of YOASOBI’s representative songs, with a total of over 700 million streams.

The staff offered to take on this project because they wanted to convey to more people that the manga and film “Blue Period” is “a work that supports everyone who continues to challenge themselves in the things they love” through a collaboration with the song “Gunjo,” which beautifully expresses the “exhilaration of finding something you love, the joy of immersing yourself in it, and the pain and conflict that lies beyond that” depicted in “Blue Period,” and has inspired and encouraged many people and given them the courage to move forward.

This collaboration project was made possible due in part to the fact that “Blue Period” was the inspiration behind the now-famous national hit “Gunjo.”

■ “I felt like I had discovered my true self.”
The special video also shows Yato struggling with his continued drawing, which syncs with the theme of the song, “the joy, anguish, and conflict of facing what you love.” Yato had no goals and didn’t feel like he was living, but the lyrics of “Gunjo” say, “I felt like I had found my true self.” This is linked to Yato’s memorable line, “I may not have any talent, but I love drawing,” as he discovers what he loves and his “passion” awakens.

“Gunjo” is a message of encouragement to those who pursue what they love, and the collaborative video gives courage as it shows Yato, who is fascinated by the world of art and continues to challenge himself with painting.

In the movie “Blue Period,” Yato “faces his true self.” How will he change at the end of the story? Be sure to see it in theaters.

■Rave reviews from celebrities are arriving one after another!
This film has been receiving rave reviews from celebrities from all walks of life who have already seen the film. Be sure to check out these earnest, passionate comments.

■ Comment from Akira Kawashima
As soon as the show began, I was moved by the blueness of Shibuya in the early morning that unfolded before my eyes.
It’s a pleasure to watch the story speed along with the beautiful music.
The fun of this movie made me feel frustrated, and it made me want to fight again.

Comment from Jin Katagiri
As someone who graduated from an art school, I love the original manga, which has many expressions that hit home for me, and I’ve seen the anime and exhibitions, but to be honest, I was a bit worried about the live-action movie… But then there were so many great lines coming out of the flesh-and-blood actors, as if they had jumped out of the manga!

what is it!?
This movie “gives you too much push”!!

I watched it from the perspective of a parent whose child is taking the entrance exam to an art school!
This is a work I would like to show to my 33-year-old self, when I was self-deprecating and thought I had no talent!
Also, if they make a “Geidai edition” I would love to see it released!

■Comment from Atsuko Uchida (freelance announcer)
Surely there are passions in everyone’s life that we have turned a blind eye to because we think they are “out of reach.”
The light that greets me after I leave the comfortable darkness is so bright it hurts, but I will not doubt my love and will protect it to the end. Even after watching the movie, I still feel the same way I did when I read my favorite original novel.
Thanks to Yato and the others teaching me the courage to never turn away from my passion, I feel like I can once again start running towards the dream that I can’t give up.

■Moegara Comments
While watching, I wanted to say, “Do your best!” Maybe that’s what I wanted to say to myself.
It was a beautiful and passionate human drama that was so typical of Hagiwara!

■Comment from Kazuki Takeichi (mol-74)
I discovered something I liked, I was fascinated by it, I was obsessed with it,
As I went deeper and deeper, it became more and more painful.
However, Yato once again taught me that there is a joy that can only be felt beyond that.
I will definitely go see it again!

Comment from Michihiko Yanai
It’s something that can only be conveyed through manga, and something that can only be conveyed through live action.
The film itself, like the protagonist, is also taking on the challenge of portraying the imagination with flesh and blood.
My own experiences of taking the entrance exam to Tokyo University of the Arts four times, the world where I could not escape comparison, and the struggles I faced were vividly brought back to me, and my heart was warmed.

Comment from Michihito Fujii
Immature, shallow, naive. But also fragile, delicate, and invincible.
“Blue Period” brings back to life those youthful memories that were locked away deep inside, with the overwhelming passion of the actors and beautiful visuals.
I think this song is a cheer song dedicated to all young people who have dreams. I hope it reaches many people.

■ Comment from LiLiCo
In the youth, we want to agree with everyone else.
But when I encounter something I like, it makes my brain spark.
And those who strive for it
Shining brighter than anyone else!
Do something for yourself rather than conforming to others
The importance of completing things is something you learn when you become an adult.
It will be a great asset. It’s a film that will cheer on young people!

■ Comment from Reo Fujii (Omoinotake)
When you get tired of trying hard, when you feel empty because of the lack of talent, when you no longer know what “love” is, this is a movie you can return to at any time, get hit with a punchline, and regain your sense of self. That’s what this movie is like.

■ Comment from Saori Sakoda (former Japanese national volleyball team member)
People are drawn to Yato because of the way he faces himself, finds what he likes, and lives honestly.

There were scenes in the movie where I could feel the wonderful bond of love, and I was moved by how passion can have an impact on those around you and give you a push forward.

Although jumping into an unknown world can be scary and anxiety-provoking, this movie made me realize the importance of being honest about what you love and continuing to challenge yourself.
