Newtro, a “revival” music project that reconstructs Japan’s most famous songs, has released the music video for their 18th song, “Ruby Ring x Sala.”

The song being revived this time is “Ruby Ring” by Terao Akira, a masterpiece that represents the Showa era and was created by some of Japan’s most legendary composers – Terao Akira, lyrics by Matsumoto Takashi, and arranged by Inoue Akira. It sold 1.35 million copies and won the Grand Prize, Gold Prize, Lyricist’s Prize, Composition’s Prize, and Arrangement Prize at the 23rd Japan Record Awards.

This legendary song has been reconstructed by Sala, a singer who has attracted attention for her R&B and hip-hop based style and her clear voice that touches people’s hearts, and is expected to be a representative of the future Z generation with her songs that depict real daily life, with an arrangement by music producer Teppei Kakuda. The illustrations for the music video were done by Yoshino.

An interview with Sala will be aired on MUSIC ON! TV’s “Newtro” on August 8th.

■Sala Comment
I myself have grown to like songs from the 80s and 90s after discovering them through cover versions, so I thought this was a great idea and decided to participate.
I’ve never recorded a cover song before, so it was a very fresh experience for me!
The reason is that “Ruby Ring” was one of the most familiar songs among the candidates.
I was very excited because it was produced by Teppei.
Since it’s a famous song that everyone knows, the image of how to sing the original is very strong, and when it’s a cover, the singing style tends to be similar, but I deliberately tried not to listen to the original too much so that I could sing it in my own style without being conscious of it.
Teppei’s track is incredibly cool as it respects the original while still feeling very modern, so I hope you will pay attention to it!
