Yuki Kashiwagi comments on AKB48’s “hand-me-down costume culture.” “Even if it smelled bad, it would have been hard for the juniors to point it out.”

■ There was also an episode about fans using “perfume” at “handshake events”. “Perfume is difficult to use”

Kashiwagi Yuki commented on body odor on the August 5th broadcast of ABEMA’s news program “ABEMA Prime” (every Monday to Friday from 9pm to 11pm), where she serves as MC.

Regarding body odor, which is difficult to point out and hard to notice on your own, Kashiwagi commented, “I’m taking measures, but I don’t really know what my own smell is, and I think it’s difficult for people around me to say anything about it…”

She further recalled, “AKB48 has a culture of handing down costumes, so my juniors often had the opportunity to wear my costumes. We sweat a lot during live performances, but we can’t get our costumes cleaned every day, so the only thing we could do about the smell was to spray them with deodorant spray. I was really worried that if my juniors smelled bad, it would be difficult for them to say anything.”

She also spoke about handshake events, where she gets closer to her fans. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “There are so many fans who take measures to prevent odors.” She continued, “Some fans were concerned about sweaty hands, so they put perfume on their palms out of consideration. The scent stayed on my hands, and other fans mistook it for my perfume. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of wearing perfume as a matter of etiquette, but every time other fans asked me, ‘What perfume is that?’ or ‘Have you started wearing perfume?’ I felt that using perfume was difficult.”

In addition, the broadcast on this day is available for catch-up streaming on ABEMA.
