Naniwa Danshi’s Nishihata Daigo has been confirmed to appear in the film “Doctor X: The Movie” (released nationwide on December 6th).

The TV drama series “Doctor X,” which has been broadcast on TV Asahi for seven series since October 2012, is a medical drama that depicts the exploits of Daimon Michiko, a lone freelance surgeon played by the lead actress Yonekura Ryoko, who does not belong to the medical department of a university hospital, but instead belongs to a suspicious referral center for top doctors, moving from one hospital to another.

“I will not help with papers, accompany patients to conferences, or take them to golf games, or do any other work that I can do without a medical license. I will perform any surgery. Because I will not fail.”

Special skill: surgery, Hobby: surgery. Michiko Daimon hates crowds, authority, and restrictions, and pushes ahead armed only with her specialist license and hard-earned skills. She “never fails,” and her highly difficult surgery and her shattering of concepts such as crowds, authority, and restrictions have been refreshing and popular throughout Japan, and have been loved for many years. This national medical drama masterpiece, “Doctor X,” has finally been made into a movie.

The series will feature a large gathering of familiar regular cast members, including leading actress Ryoko Yonekura, Kei Tanaka, Yuki Uchida, Mio Imada, Masanobu Katsumura, Kosuke Suzuki, Kenichi Endo, Ittoku Kishibe, and Toshiyuki Nishida. The scriptwriter is Miho Nakazono, and the director is Naoki Tamura of TV Asahi, making this the culmination of the strongest lineup of drama series leaders.

The secret of Daimon Michiko’s birth is revealed for the first time in the movie version. How was Daimon Michiko, the “temporary surgeon who never fails,” born? What is the dramatic life story of the dark, mysterious, solitary Michiko? Episode zero of “Doctor X” is finally revealed. And Michiko, who has overcome many crises in the drama series so far, will take on the biggest crisis in history.

Furthermore, it was recently announced that Shota Sometani will be playing two roles in the film: Hiroto Kozu, the psychopathic new hospital director who stands in their way, and Takato Kozu, Hiroto’s twin brother. The role that holds the key to the story of this film has been revealed, and it is attracting more and more attention.

■Nishihata Daigo will be appearing in “Doctor X” in his first role as a medical intern!
Nishihata Daigo, whose appearance has been revealed this time, is a member of the hugely popular idol group Naniwa Danshi. Since his first TV drama appearance in the morning drama “Gochisousan” (2014), he has expanded his field of activities as an actor. In recent years, Nishihata has continued to challenge himself in new areas, such as his first leading role in a horror film in “Kikaijima” (2023), and in this work, he will take on his first role as a medical intern.

The role he plays is of Ren Higashimura, a medical intern assigned to Totei University Hospital, where the story is set. He passionately plays Higashimura, who is confused by the organizational culture that only follows the will of the government, but grows as he strives to become a full-fledged doctor.

Regarding his first role as a medical intern and joining “Doctor-X,” Nishihata said, “I was extremely surprised when I heard about the cast. It was my first time playing a medical intern, and I was worried about taking part in the movie version of a drama that everyone knows, but everyone on the Doctor-X team welcomed me warmly. Yonekura-san and Uchida-san called me “Dai-chan,” and I enjoyed every day of filming. I was really happy to be able to be involved in such a wonderful set.” Looking back on the filming, he commented, “This film has some comedic elements that are unique to Doctor-X, but I think there will also be some touching and moving scenes. I hope you will watch it. Please look forward to it.”

In addition, it has been announced that Baba Toru will play Himuro Jun, the right-hand man and administrative manager of the new hospital director, Kouji Hiroto; Rokkaku Seiji will play Akagawa, the president of a medical equipment manufacturer that Takato does business with; and Jinbo Satoshi will play Ondo Satoru, the owner of a watch shop in Kure, Hiroshima, where Daimon Michiko was born and raised.

■ Comment from Daigo Nishihata
I was very surprised when I heard about the role. It was my first time playing a medical intern, and I was worried about participating in the movie version of a drama that everyone knows, but the Doctor X team welcomed me warmly. Yonekura-san and Uchida-san called me “Dai-chan,” and I had fun every day participating in the filming. I was really happy to be able to be involved in such a wonderful set.
The character I play, Ren Higashimura, is a modern-day doctor who is confident but also a little absent-minded. He is a character who grows steadily through Dr. Daimon’s surgery and the support of those around him.
This work has comedic parts that are unique to Doctor X, but I think there are also some touching scenes that will really touch your heart. I hope you will watch it. Please look forward to it.
