The three guests who will be in the studio are world-renowned violinist Taro Hakase, Executive Creative Director of “dentsu Japan” Yoshimitsu Sawamoto, and author and creator Seiko Ito, and they will thoroughly analyze the reasons why CM songs are so fascinating to us, from the perspective of “social conditions” and “musicality,” in a unique way that is unique to “Tamori Station.”

■ Songs change with the times… See the Showa era! Tamori talks about the era of the best 50 hit commercials
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the birth of Japan’s first TV commercial song, “Yappa Morinaga Ne” (1954). This time, “Tamori Station” will select “50 commercial songs that defined the Showa era” based on the opinions of experts. We will unravel the social situation from the 1950s to the 1980s and the secrets of their success.

In addition, Hakase Taro will perform live with an orchestra and band to demonstrate and explain the musical techniques hidden in the commercial songs.

■A comprehensive look at the history of commercial songs, which have evolved in response to the times!
The program will examine CM songs from various angles as they have evolved to reflect the times. It will look back on their history, including the perspectives of experts and little-known behind-the-scenes stories.

In the 1950s, the dawn of television, the original CM song creator Toriro Miki created a large number of CM songs. What is the “secret” behind the CM songs he composed that attracted so many people?

In the 1960s, when the nation entered a period of rapid economic growth and the penetration rate of television exploded, the rise of the “shock song,” a song that left a strong impact in a short length, became popular. In the 1970s, the number of commercial songs proposing new lifestyles increased, and battles for campaign songs between cosmetic manufacturers began to unfold.

During the bubble period of the 1980s, while commercial songs supporting corporate warriors were popular, there were also commercial songs targeting young people known as the “new breed.”

While carefully tracing the evolution of CM songs, the program also focuses on the masters of CM songs, including Miki Toriro, Kobayashi Asei, who dominated the world of CM songs in the 1970s, “The Mozart of Naniwa,” Kida Taro, and legendary CM planner Sato Masahiko. Hakaze talks at length about their greatness while demonstrating on the violin.

■ “Commercials are a mirror that reflects the times” Tamori feels the flow of the times through commercial songs!
After finishing the recording, Tamori praised the interesting aspect of this project, which looked at the Showa era through commercial songs, saying, “It’s been 70 years since Japan’s first TV commercial song was created, and it’s very interesting to see how commercials have changed with the mood of the times. They say that ‘commercials are a mirror that reflects the times,’ and that’s absolutely true. It’s rare to get a chance to see commercials from all the decades of the Showa era all together like this, so I think this is a very valuable project.”

This time, along with commentary from Hakase Taro, the show will also look into the talents of the masters of commercial songs. “Hakase’s commentary was also very easy to understand. Miki Toriro, Kobayashi Asei, Kida Taro, Sato Masahiko…I felt that they were all both geniuses and craftsmen. Commercials appeal to the viewer, but when you look closely you can see that they contain highly artistic elements. The power of commercials is really amazing,” he said, reflecting on commercials as a culture, and realizing the power that commercial songs brought to the Showa era.

The program is packed with nostalgic CM songs that captured people’s hearts during the Showa era. “Tamori Station – The 50 Showa CM Songs that Made the Era” will be broadcast from 8:54 p.m. on August 17th.
