■The special opening show will feature light entertainment using Nijisanji’s music!
The fourth light festival, “TOKYO LIGHTS 2024,” will be held from September 14th to 16th at the Meiji Jingu Gaien Shotoku Memorial Art Gallery and the Meiji Jingu Gaien General Baseball Stadium Softball Field.
And now, “Either Ayame or Iris” from Nijisanji, the largest VTuber group in Japan, has been appointed as the official ambassador.
“Someday Ayame or Iris” is a unit (commonly known as Ayakaki) consisting of four VTubers affiliated with Nijisanji who debuted in June 2024: Tsukasa Riko, Tamanoi Nana, Kisara, Kozue Momone, and Runrun, and one pet.
The special opening show on each day will feature light entertainment using Nijisanji’s music.
■What is “TOKYO LIGHTS”?
“TOKYO LIGHTS” is a creative “light festival” that lights up the Tokyo nightlife, sending a shining message to the world.
You can enjoy an immersive light experience that combines cutting-edge technology and entertainment, including the “Projection Mapping International Competition” where the world’s top video creators will compete, the “Special Opening Show” featuring the aforementioned Nijisanji music, “A fantastical installation where light, music, and video are synchronized,” and “A performance show featuring approximately 300 drones and performers.”
In addition, “TOKYO LIGHTS 2024” is scheduled to be held at the same venue in November 2024.
■Projection Mapping International Competition “1minute Projection Mapping Competition”
This is an international projection mapping competition that started in Japan in 2012 and has a long history and is a prestigious event. Every year, participants compete to be the best in the world with videos that are between 1 minute and 1 minute 59 seconds long. This year’s theme was “Mirror,” and 278 entries were received from 56 countries and regions around the world. Among them, 18 works were selected as finalists from 14 countries around the world, along with up-and-coming creators. The showdown will be held at the Meiji Memorial Art Museum, with a prize of 2 million yen and the title of world’s best at stake.
At the awards ceremony on August 16th, talent Harry Sugiyama will serve as MC, and news anchor and actress Shibuya Aki will serve as supporting MC, further helping to add to the excitement of the event.
■ Travel through a world of light in the “Light Entertainment Area”
Under the direction of director Junma Hiroto, who has worked on numerous large-scale events both in Japan and overseas, Japan’s leading creators will come together in Tokyo to create a spectacular world of light filled with a sense of the extraordinary.
You can experience five immersive live entertainment shows that combine light art and cutting-edge technology, such as “STAR DANCE,” a spectacular low-altitude drone light show featuring about 300 drones and performers, “GALAXY SYMPHONY,” a giant coliseum where about 10,000 lights from “FreFlow(R),” wirelessly controlled penlights, change color one after another, and “ETERNITY MIRROR MONOLITH,” where a giant 7-meter-tall mirror and LED vision project the future.
