Mr.Children’s new song “in the pocket” will be released exclusively online on August 30th. The cover photo has also been released.
“In the pocket” is a song written as the theme song for the original feature-length animated film “Kimi no Iro” (released on August 30th) directed by Naoko Yamada. The song is filled with the band’s straightforward wish to softly and supplely celebrate a new journey.
Takuo Yamamoto (Sax) and Koji Nishimura (Trumpet) participated in the recording. In addition, Kensuke Ushio, who is in charge of the music for the film, was invited to co-arrange with Mr.Children, adding a new color to the song. In addition, Joe LaPorta (Sterling Sound) was in charge of mastering, and Chie Morimoto (goen°) was in charge of the jacket artwork.

The special movie for the movie “Kimi no Iro” has just been released, featuring the theme song “in the pocket” by Mr.Children. The song begins with the prelude of a ringing bell. Totsuko can see people in “colors”, Kimi has stopped going to school and hasn’t told her family about it, and Rui is secretly pursuing a career in music because his mother expects him to become a doctor. The three, including Totsuko, all have their own problems they can’t tell anyone about. They meet at a used bookstore in a corner of a town, and the scene of them forming a band is shown against the backdrop of beautiful cityscapes and seascapes.
The lyrics, which suddenly remind us of the somewhat unstable age of 17, when we have vague anxieties about the future, overlap with the video, creating an emotional effect. The video builds expectations for how the three will grow through “music.”
