Newtro, a “revival” music project that reconstructs Japan’s greatest hits, has released the music video for their 19th song, “Akai Sweet Pea x Kyiku feat. Misora Mimi.”

The song being revived this time is “Akai Sweet Pea,” a huge hit released in 1982 by Seiko Matsuda, an idol representative of the 80s and a singer loved across generations.

A beautiful slow ballad with excellent lyrics written by the famous lyricist Takashi Matsumoto and composed by Yumi Matsutoya (pen name: Karuho Kureta), along with her many hits such as “Balcony on the Beach” and “Blue Coral Reef”, is a must-have song when talking about her as a singer representing the Showa era. Kyiku, who works as a Vocaloid producer and also writes songs, has recreated this song featuring singer and Vsinger “Misora Mimi”, who sings with emotion in her clear anime song voice. The illustrations for the music video were done by Vinetsu.

When I listened to it for the first time in a while, the melody naturally stuck in my head and the atmosphere of the song brought back some nostalgia, and before I knew it, I had chosen this song because I wanted to arrange it.
When we were reconstructing this song, we found that her voice and the image of the song matched perfectly, so we really wanted to ask Misora Mimi to do the vocals, and that’s why we asked her to do it this time.
One of the key points in arranging the songs is that we use environmental sounds and create an atmospheric sound, which I think makes it easy to imagine the scenery and lyrics of the songs, making them enjoyable to listen to.
Of course, I want this to reach people who love Seiko Matsuda’s “Akai Sweet Pea,” but I’ve put my own new sound into the song, so I hope it will be a great encounter for new listeners as well.
