■ “I think I was able to convey the menu to the best of my ability.” (Yamashita Mizuki)
A new TV commercial for the delivery and takeout app “menu” has been completed, featuring the first ever commercial collaboration between Kirin’s Akira Kawashima and actor Mizuki Yamashita. The “Summer Love” and “Death Game” versions will start airing in the Kanto and Kansai areas from August 23rd, while the “Boxer” version will be released exclusively on the web.
This is the second commercial produced by Nobuyuki Sakuma, featuring the one-phrase scene, “Delivery is menu!”
In the “Summer Love” episode, Kawashima and Yamashita portray a bittersweet love story at a summer festival, while in the “Death Game” episode, Yamashita is locked in an impersonal room and challenges Kawashima, the death game master, and in the “Boxer” episode, you can enjoy the passionate scenes of Kawashima playing a boxer and Yamashita playing his second in a corner.
The making-of video includes impressions from Kawashima and Yamashita, who are appearing together in a commercial for the first time, as well as Yamashita, who has been appointed as menu’s new ambassador, talking about his favorite delivery restaurants and recommended ways to use the service.
With the sole desire to get everyone to know that “Delivery is menu!”, keep an eye out for Kawashima and Yamashita’s convincing “one-phrase acting” in which they express all the emotions of joy, anger, sorrow and happiness in every everyday scene with just one phrase.
In conjunction with the release of the new commercial, three campaigns are being held on X (formerly Twitter). For details, check out the official menu account.
■ Interview with Mizuki Yamashita
Q. Please tell us about your enthusiasm as a menu ambassador.
Yamashita:My name is Mizuki Yamashita, and I have been appointed as the ambassador for menu. I love to eat, and I often use menu, so I am very happy. I will do my best.Q. What did you think of Kawashima’s acting?
Yamashita:I usually work with Kawashima on variety shows, so this was the first time we acted face to face, but the impact was amazing. I often saw the commercial for the previous film, so I was really surprised at how good Kawashima was at acting, but this time I was able to see her acting in front of me, so it was really fun, and I think she really led me.Q. How was it acting in a role where the only line was “menu”?
Yamashita:I was a little worried and confused about whether this would be okay, but they added a lot of direction and I think I was able to convey the menu to the best of my ability.Q. There were some bittersweet scenes, but if you were to be confessed to, is there a situation you would dream of?
Yamashita:That’s right. I don’t usually have many opportunities to wear a yukata or go to a summer festival like this time… I long for such a summery situation, and I thought that a situation like this time, where Kawashima-san held my hand and turned me around, is a very classic one, and I thought that if it actually happened, I would be startled.Q. When do you usually use delivery services?
Yamashita:Yes, I often use it after work. I usually come home tired and want to reward myself by ordering some delivery as soon as I get home.Q. What type of gourmet food do you usually order?
Yamashita:Well, I order a lot of different things, but I love ramen the most. I especially like spicy ramen, so I often order from Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto.Q. What are the benefits of delivery?
Yamashita:Yes, I think it’s really nice to be able to easily order something on days when you come home tired or don’t feel like going outside. Personally, I like to take a bath as soon as I get home, so I can calculate how long it will take to get out of the bath and have it delivered just as I get out. Being able to adjust the time myself like that is really great.
