Rira Ikuta’s new song “Sign” will be the theme song for the ABEMA original drama “Transparent Us”

■ “I hope that this song, ‘Sign,’ will be a song that grows with them with each episode.” (Rira Ikuta)

Ikuta Rira’s new song “Sign” has been chosen as the theme song for the original drama series “Transparent Us” (6 episodes), which will be streamed for free on ABEMA from 11pm on September 16th.

“Transparent Us” is an ABEMA original drama series written and directed by Matsumoto Yusaku, who also worked on films such as “Winny” and “It’s All My Fault,” and produced by Fujii Michihito, who has worked on films such as “The Yakuza and the Family” and “True Identity.”

This socially conscious ensemble suspense drama is set in Tokyo and Toyama, and stars Fukuhara Haruka. The cast includes talented actors in their 20s who are the same generation as Fukuhara and have an indispensable presence in Japanese dramas and films, such as Ono Karin, Ito Kentaro, Kura Yuki, and Takeda Rena, who sympathize with the theme of “a work that captures the current lives of young people in their 20s who feel like they don’t belong anywhere.”

The story realistically and honestly depicts the emotions and situations that young people in their 20s find themselves in, as well as the conflicts that result from them, and because it is an ensemble drama, it is a story in which any viewer can empathize with one of the characters.

The theme song “Sign” is a slow-tempo, gentle tune that expresses the feelings of “placelessness” and “loneliness” that modern young people feel. The lyrics, which are linked to the content of the work, are also worth paying attention to.

A teaser video featuring this song has also been released. Be sure to check it out.

■ Comment from Rira Ikuta
I wrote a song called “Sign” as the theme song.
After reading the script for the drama and watching the actual footage, I was touched by the conflicts and frustration that Aoi and the others experience through the incident, as well as the thoughts they derive from that. I wanted to create a song that connects with my own reality as someone from a similar generation.
Each person has their own sense of justice, and while they may make mistakes at times, they continue to desperately search for who they are. I hope that this song, “Sign,” can become a song that grows with them with each episode. Thank you.
