Kenshi Yonezu’s 6th album “LOST CORNER”, released on August 21st, sold 252,000 copies on the first day of release (the day it arrived in stores) on the “Oricon Daily Album Ranking” dated August 20th, ranking first. It also recorded the highest first week sales for a solo artist this year.
The album features a lineup of 20 songs, including “Goodbye, See You Again!”, the theme song for this season’s popular NHK morning drama “Wings of a Tiger,” and “Junk,” the theme song for the movie “The Last Mile,” which will be released on August 23rd.
The album includes a number of classic songs that have colored these masterpieces, such as “Globe,” the theme song for “How Do You Live?”, the Academy Award-winning animated feature film by Studio Ghibli’s director Hayao Miyazaki (the official spelling of “崎” is “tatsusaki”); the theme song for the movie “Shin Ultraman,” “M87,” the theme song for the game “FINAL FANTASY XVI,” “I Was Looking at the Moon,” and “KICK BACK,” the opening theme for the TV anime “Chainsaw Man,” which was the first Japanese song to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album also includes nine new songs, such as “Margherita + Aina the End” which features Aina the End on vocals.
The album will be released in four formats. The “junk version” comes in a clear, artistic object case, and includes “junk” goods such as a ring engraved with the logo design, a nameplate, and a robot made from bolts and nuts.
The “Video Edition” comes in a tin case with embossed screws and other details, with a metallic, heavy feel, and includes a digipak and book. The Blu-ray or DVD included contains footage of the Yokohama Arena performance, which was the final show of the “Kenshi Yonezu 2023 TOUR / Kuusou” tour. The “Regular Edition” is a special edition packaged in a bag cover with the title logo printed all over it, available only for the first press.
Fans who bought the CD on the day it arrived in stores were flooded with reactions on social media, such as “The album is amazing,” “It’s so great I could listen to it forever,” and “This is a masterpiece that will remain in the history of Japanese popular music.”
