The new location variety show “The Answer is Locally”, hosted by Shingo Katori, will be broadcast on Yomiuri TV from 12:53 on August 31st (Kansai local, streamed on TVer after broadcast). The hosts are Hiromasa Yashiki (New York) and Thelma Aoyama.
“The Answer is Revealed on Location” is a quiz/documentary program in which questions that you can only know the answer to by going to the location are posed.
The contestants, who know nothing about the event, are suddenly asked questions. However, the correct answers to the questions are only known by visiting the actual event. They can’t find the answers by searching online… but when they hear the answer, they are curious, so they spend a lot of time and effort searching for the answers, sometimes in a silly way.
In this day and age where you can find out almost anything on the internet in just a few seconds, there is no substitute for finding the right answer on your own.
for example…
“Q: What color is the flower that blooms at the highest point in Japan?”
“Q. What is the celebrity autograph displayed at the southernmost point of Japan?”
Q: There is a village in China where all the villagers are kung fu masters. What is the strongest technique of the strongest person in the village?
And so on.
The quiz exploration locations range from “the furthest reaches of Japan” to “unexplored areas overseas”! The contestants, each with their own unique style, will actually travel to the locations to find the correct answers to a total of four quiz questions.
Seeing is believing, and one’s own experience is the best wisdom. The answer to the quiz you’re curious about is… on location! Keep an eye out for this new location variety show that you can’t see anywhere else.
■Katori Shingo x Yashiki Hiromasa (New York) x Aoyama Thelma form their first team!
Katori Shingo, Yashiki Hiromasa (New York), and Aoyama Thelma formed a team for the first time on this program. The three of them will share their sensibilities as they watch the contestants experience the cathartic moment when they find the correct answer on location. They sent in some enthusiastic comments right after the recording.
■ Interviews with Shingo Katori, Hiromasa Yashiki (New York), and Thelma Aoyama
Q. This is the first time the three of you have teamed up. What were your thoughts after finishing the recording?
Katori:it was fun!
Aoyama：That’s good.
Katori: (Looking at the mansion) I didn’t know him very well.
Mansion: It was pretty formal! We’ve worked together a few times! But it was really fun. The two of them answered all my questions more than I expected, and it was really fun with a relaxed atmosphere, like watching TV at home.Q. What are the highlights of the show?
Mansion：All the themes are interesting, and I think it’s the kind of program that you’ll find yourself watching forever once you turn on the TV. In the 1.5 hour program, the four groups spend a lot of time and effort going to the locations, so I thought it was a luxurious or extravagant program.
Aoyama: We live in a very convenient age, don’t we? You can find anything with an internet search, and the answers are right at our fingertips. But I think that the tedious task of going out of your way to find answers that don’t come up through searching is actually what’s interesting about this era.
Katori: It’s good to be on location. It’s good to be on location. Recently, I’ve had more remote meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the distance is still close. That’s why I often go to the other person’s place to talk. I say, “I’m going to the location.” If you meet in person, things are quicker and it’s completely different. I love being on location. It’s really a show that suits me. The studio is very relaxed, and you can see “Shingo-chan who isn’t on location.” But if there was a second round, it would be a big no-no to send any of us here!
Aoyama: These staff members seem like the kind of people who would do it.
Katori：Suddenly a quiz booth comes out and says, “Here’s the question.” It’s like, “You’re really going?” That kind of thing is a no-no.
Program P：Is that not okay…?
Katori: If you really want to, then Kusanagi (※The official spelling of Kusanagi is “nagi” which is the character for bow with “mae” and “sword”)!
