SixTONES’ Jesse and Shintaro Morimoto appear on the cover of “anan”! Four gravure shots designed to look like fictional movie posters

■An interview that gives a glimpse into the relationship between the “Sumatsu” members of SixTONES

Jesse and Morimoto Shintaro, the younger duo of SixTONES, affectionately known to fans as “Suezu,” will appear as a buddy pair on the cover of “anan” issue 2412 (on sale September 4th).

This is the third installment of the SixTONES buddy cover project, following Kyomoto Taiga x Kochi Yugo, Matsumura Hokuto x Tanaka Juri. The gravure photos are designed to look like four fictional movie posters: action, romance, sci-fi, and youth story.

This time, the shoot was themed around “exciting moments that shift gears.” The first shot was titled “Travelers from the year 20XX.” Dressed in casual outfits consisting of black track jackets and sunglasses, and lit by pink colored lights, the shot imagines the pair having traveled back in time from the near future. Some upbeat EDM was playing in the studio, and in response to the request to “capture funky expressions and movements,” the pair began dancing to the rhythm. Pulling their hoods down over their eyes, and tucking their sunglasses in their mouths… their rich expressiveness resulted in a pop shot reminiscent of a sci-fi movie poster.

The next scene was “A Brief Holiday,” inspired by old romance movies. Riding on scooters, Jesse changed into a brown suit while Morimoto changed into a slim-fitting checked suit, transforming into a “dandy” look. In response to the request to “look as cool and showy as possible,” in solo shots they expressed “dandy” looks through their poses and expressions, holding a large bouquet of flowers and resting their elbows on the handlebars of the scooter. In group shots, there were comical scenes where they ate ice cream and pizza and juggled apples. In a pose that imagined them driving, Jesse hugged Morimoto tightly from behind, and the “innocent” pose of them looking at each other with slightly embarrassed looks had the studio filled with laughter.

For the third pose, they wore monochrome suits with black hats and sunglasses, paying homage to the world of the classic film “The Blues Brothers.” Toy pistols and a mug shot board with their names written on it were also prepared. Under the spotlight, the two struck poses one after the other with cool expressions. They looked so cool that the staff exclaimed, “I really want to see a movie like this!”

The last scene they shot was titled “Blue Memories” and was inspired by a scene from a fictional teen movie. They changed into refreshing outfits of white T-shirts and jeans and the shoot took place on the studio rooftop, where they drank Ramune candy, played with water guns and captured on camera a moment that evokes “THE youth” at the end of summer. In the scene where they throw water balloons, in order to create a more realistic feel, the entire staff decided to throw water balloons at the pair. The large number of water balloons thrown at once burst, and the pair could not stop laughing at the splashes of water that were greater than they had imagined. This rare shot shows the innocent smiles that are so typical of the “Suezu”.

In the interview, they talk about their thoughts on SixTONES and the future, as well as the moment they realized each other’s talents, and how they deal with their own talents and potential, in line with the theme of the special issue. In addition, questions that delve into the relationship between the two, which is unique to a buddy project, include “What word best describes your relationship now?” and “What if you were the “older” in the group?”, and other rare stories that you won’t hear anywhere else.
