Mone Kamishiraishi to play Yodomi, the owner of Tatarimedo, in the film “The Mysterious Candy Shop Zenitendo”! Her first villain role

The fourth new cast member who will add a dark spice to the story of the movie “The Mysterious Candy Shop Zenitendou,” which will be released on December 13th, has been announced. Mone Kamishiraishi has been chosen to play Yodomi, the owner of the mysterious candy shop “Tatarimedou.” This will be her first time playing a villainous role.

Amami Yuki will play the role of “Zeni-Tendou” store owner Beniko, the director will be Japanese film genius Nakata Hideo, and the script will be written by Yoshida Reiko. In addition, following Ohashi Kazuya (Naniwa Danshi) as the role of Todoroki Kotaro, a novice teacher, Ihara Rikka will play Aida Yoko, a fashion magazine editor who was a junior of Kotaro’s in college, and more cast information has been released since August.

Mone Kamishiraishi, whose appearance has been announced, won the Jury Special Award at the 7th Toho Cinderella Audition in 2011 and made her debut as an actress in the same year. In 2023, she won the Best Actress Award at the 30th Yomiuri Theater Awards for her role in the stage production of Spirited Away. While she has been active in a wide range of fields as an actress, including movies, dramas, stage plays, radio, and narration, she also made her debut as a singer in 2016 and will perform a live concert at the Budokan in 2023. With her rare talent, she continues to make great strides as an indispensable presence in the Japanese entertainment world. Since her debut, Kamishiraishi has played a variety of roles, and in this work she takes on her first “villainous role.” She plays Yodomi, the owner of the mysterious candy store “Tatarimedo,” who is a popular character in the original work and rivals Beniko, the owner of Zenitendo, played by Yuki Amami.

Yodomi is a dark character who takes advantage of the gaps in people’s hearts, plots evil and misleads people. She is a girl who collects “people’s malice” to make sweets and sells them at her store, “Tatarimedou,” absorbing the malice from customers and turning it into energy. She is a unique character with a black kimono with a bright red spider lily painted on it and a deep blue bob haircut.

Regarding playing the role of Yodomi, an evil being who looks like a young girl but is mature inside, Kamishiraishi commented, “I was surprised when I heard about the role, but my love for the original work and Yodomi grew and grew, and I became very excited. The meticulous hair, makeup, and costumes really gave me strength. Thanks to them, it was a lot of fun to act! It’s a production that can be enjoyed by people of all ages! I’m looking forward to seeing you at Tatarimedo,” showing her enthusiasm for the new challenge.

■ Character visuals of the “horrifyingly dark” worldview created by Yodomi, the owner of “Tatarimedou”, have also been released
A dark visual that is different from the visuals released so far, and that fully expresses the world of Yodomi, has arrived. Yodomi is offering a suspicious snack in front of the curtain of “Tatarimedo”, which is shimmering with malice. He looks at us with a wicked expression, as if he is craving the ill will of the customers. The character visual is a chilling dark one, as if Yodomi’s “evil plan” will lead the customers down the path of misfortune.

Yodomi’s shop, “Tatarimedo,” is a mysterious candy store that sells candy made from “people’s malice.” The complete opposite of “Zeni-Tendo,” the store is dim and melancholic, and a rare scene has been released in which Beniko and Yodomi glare at each other. Yodomi has a black ball in her hand that seems to be filled with ominous things… Why did Beniko go to “Tatarimedo”?

Beniko is not the only one who visits “Tatarimedou”. A customer, an elementary school student with a shaved head, comes to the store. In contrast to the boy’s worried expression, Yodomi has a fearless smile on his face and seems to be offering him some cheap snacks. This photo, which suggests a disturbing development, has been released for the first time.

Comment from Mone Kamishiraishi
I will be playing Yodomi, the owner of Tatarimedo.
I was surprised when I heard about the project,
My love for the original work and Yodomi grew and I was very excited.
I received a lot of hints from the director, staff and cast.
I was also really inspired by the attention to detail given to the hair, makeup and costumes.
Thanks to you, it was fun to act!
And it had always been my secret goal to work with Amami-san, so I was very happy.
I was always touched by the breadth of his perspective and his thoughtfulness as he gently reached out to me when I was in trouble.
My admiration for it grew deeper and deeper.
This is a work that can be enjoyed by people of all ages! We look forward to seeing you at Tatarimedo.

Comment from Producer Reiko Imayan
Yodomi loves people’s malice and is an enemy of Beniko.
I wanted to see Mone Kamishiraishi in a way that I had never seen before, and I wanted to see her interact with Beniko, played by Amami, so I offered her the role.
From the very first line of her reading, her tone of voice and her mannerisms were dark and stagnant, drawing me in. Kamishiraishi’s natural cuteness and innocence combine to make her a lovable character on screen.
You’re sure to be captivated by a side of Kamishiraishi you’ve never seen before, from the way she walks like a child, her blue hair swinging, in her sandals, to the way she laughs out loud as she sees people’s malice grow!
