Sakurai Sho plays the masked man in the film “The Three Names Omega: Isn’t this just a crime?!”

■Sakurai, who had been sending out love calls saying “I want to appear” for quite some time, is finally making his appearance!

It has been revealed that Sakurai Sho will be playing the masked man in the film “The Three Names Omega: Surely This Is a Crime?!” (released August 30th).

The drama series “The Three Names” started in 2005 and became a hot topic as a laid-back comedy about three part-time workers having trivial conversations at a family restaurant late at night. In April 2022, the film “The Three Names: Remote Work Is Impossible? ~” was released as the first new work in 12 years. Although it started as a limited release for one week, it became a huge hit with theaters such as Shinjuku Wald 9 being sold out. Two years after the unexpected big hit “Remote Work Is Impossible?,” the familiar characters Ryuta Sato, Yoshinori Okada, and Takashi Tsukamoto continue to play the three people who gather at the family restaurant – Jumbo, Mattsun, and Mickey. This time, the restaurant has reopened as “Omega” and is back, even more powerful than before.

The masked man who appeared in the film and was blurred out in the trailer was shrouded in mystery, leaving fans wondering, “Who on earth is playing him?” The masked man who causes the biggest incident in the history of “THE 3 Namesama” is none other than Sakurai Sho. Fans (the name for “THE 3 Namesama” fans) are sure to be moved to tears by this long-awaited appearance, which will remind fans of “Kisarazu Cat’s Eye” that took the world by storm with Sato Ryuta, Okada Yoshinori, and Tsukamoto Takashi.

Sakurai is still friends with the three in private, and had been sending them love calls for quite some time saying he wanted to appear in “THE 3 Names”, so it was finally time to co-star in “THE 3 Names”. Director Yu Moriya also spoke emotionally about this dream collaboration, saying, “I knew from the grapevine that they were fans of “THE 3 Names”. However, I had half given up, thinking, ‘No, no, no, this is a dream come true.’ But at the end of 2023, they readily agreed to appear, and when I told the three of them, everyone was incredibly excited.”

In the episode where the masked man appears, Hiraiwa Kami also makes a guest appearance as the masked man’s wife, Hibari. The director commented on Hiraiwa’s participation, “It was only when the three of them said, ‘Isn’t that going too far?’ that I realized it was a ‘Kisarazu Cats reunion.’ In the end, I thought to myself, ‘THE 3′ is not too much!’ and made an official offer to Hiraiwa. He agreed to appear even though he was working on a morning drama, and the five of us were finally able to reunite. There was a nostalgic atmosphere on set, and a good sense of tension as they were acting together for the first time in over 20 years, so it was rewarding for the director as well.” The director’s playful side is also evident in the comments, which exude his joy at the realization of the two dream actors’ collaboration.

Also making guest appearances in this film are Abe Ryohei as the leader of a motorcycle gang, Yamawaki Tatsuya as motorcycle gang member Chataro, and Onozuka Shogo as fellow gang member Kaneman. Keep an eye out for the interactions between these three and Asakura, a family restaurant employee played by Ando Tamae. Tsuchiya Shimba and Amano Hana appear as a married couple sitting in the box next to the three. The cast of special guests adds color to each episode, which is only possible in the film version. Be sure to check it out at the theater.
