Ken Miyake, narrator of “Haru no Sora: You Can Do It Even If You Can’t Hear It” for “NNN Document ’24”

■ A close look at a family that overcomes obstacles and conveys the importance of never giving up on their dreams

It has been revealed that Miyake Ken will be the narrator for “Haru no Sora: You Can Do It Even If You Can’t Hear It,” a segment of “NNN Document ’24” which will air on Nippon Television from 12:55 am on September 1st.

The story is set in Biei, Hokkaido. Haruki Kasuga runs a private lodging on a hill surrounded by nature. Haruki and his wife Fumie are both hearing impaired. Their two hearing children communicate everyday sounds through sign language, supporting their parents.

There are times when they can’t communicate well, and when they get irritated. How has Haruki, who says he can do things even if he can’t hear, perceived and lived in a world without sound? We followed a family that overcame the barriers of disability and conveyed the importance of never giving up on your dreams.

■Comment from Sapporo Television Director Kentaro Yamazaki
The Kasuga couple always welcome you warmly with a smile. I think their gentle nature comes from the many hardships they have faced due to their hearing impairment. The program follows them over the course of a year as they run the homestay “Haru no Sora” and support and sometimes clash with their hearing children. Through the story of this family living in harmony with the nature of Hokkaido, we hope to convey courage, hope, and the importance of family to as many people as possible across the country.
