JO1 member Shiraiwa Ruki has released an original song he wrote and composed himself, “Himawari,” as the fourth installment of the JO1 member self-YouTube project “PLANJ.”

Influenced by 90’s rock, Shiraiwa’s own thoughts are fully embodied in the song’s composition and the concept of the music video.

Be sure to check out this first appearance of the guitar and vocals in a band arrangement.

■ Comment from JO1’s Ruki Shiraiwa
This song is one that I’ve been playing at live music venues since my student days. I wrote it about how I felt at the time, unable to become anything and being crushed by various circumstances. I liken myself to a sunflower, and the theme of the song is the feeling that even if it is withered by various things, it will drop seeds and bloom again. I created this song with the image of the sunflower’s desire to one day bloom into a flower like the sun.
