■The second round of movie ticket cards featuring new visuals will go on sale from September 6th.
A number of new stills have been released from the movie “Maru” starring Tsuyoshi Domoto (released October 18th).
The still image released this time shows Sawada, played by Tsuyoshi Domoto, completing a “circle”, facing the “circle” he has drawn, and then fitting into the “circle”.
After receiving an offer from director Ogigami about two years ago, he created the character of Sawada, his first completely tailored character. Sawada, played by Tsuyoshi Domoto, and the unusual motif of “Maru” are already drawing attention.
Director Ogigami had been hoping to work with Domoto for a long time, saying, “Whenever a producer asked me, ‘Who are you interested in and who do you want to make a movie with?’ I always mentioned Domoto’s name.” “I came back to Japan in my late 20s and made my debut as a film director in my 30s, but things didn’t go well, and there was a time when I was worried and thought, ‘Oh, I’ve had enough.’ Then, by chance, I saw Domoto on TV, and I thought, ‘Oh… there’s someone who looks even tougher than me,’ and I became very interested. Since then, I was very interested, but since he had been away from acting for a while, I thought he would never appear in a movie. However, the producer told me, ‘That doesn’t seem to be the case,’ so I said, ‘Oh, I’ll write the script right away,’ and we started working on it, and that’s how ‘Maru’ began,” Ogigami explains the beginnings of “Maru,” talking about his encounter with Domoto from his unique perspective.
So the director began to look for hints in Domoto’s past interviews, and decided to base the story on “a story of someone who loses track of themselves.” “There are quite a few absurd elements, and the part about losing track of who you are was very difficult to write. But I think everyone has had that experience, and that’s exactly what I felt like I was working on the script while getting lots of hints from Domoto’s interviews,” says the director. The character of Sawada was created from Domoto Tsuyoshi’s words and was shaped from Ogigami’s unique perspective.
As can be seen in the newly released photo, the world view in which Tsuyoshi Domoto and the motif of the circle fit perfectly together is one of the highlights of this film.
Furthermore, it has been decided that the second Mubichike card will go on sale from September 6. The card features a new Mubichike original visual, depicting Sawada with his back to the city, his hand on a circle in the air and his gaze fixed on it.
