Kenshi Yonezu appears on the cover of “GINZA”! A long interview is published in which he talks about the relationship between music and fashion

■ “Without exaggeration, last year I really only wore overalls (as my casual clothes)” (Kenshi Yonezu)

Kenshi Yonezu will appear on the cover of the October issue of GINZA, which will be released on September 12th.

Kenshi Yonezu is dressed in his new autumn/winter collection in soft light. He talks about his thoughts on his latest album, “LOST CORNER,” his daily wardrobe, and the relationship between music and fashion.

The October issue of GINZA will deliver the soulful voices of musicians, as well as introduce the latest groove-filled looks for Fall/Winter 2024. It will also feature Vaundy’s current and future creations, a fashion shoot by JO1’s Shiraiwa Ruki, and snaps of international artists Kim Gordon, Tyla, and The Last Dinner Party, whom the magazine met at the festival, as well as a fashion story centered around music.

The book also includes stories about the costumes that musicians can’t throw away, and a playlist of designers that can be listened to on Spotify while reading. It’s a book filled with songs you want to hear and clothes you want to wear.

■Interview with Kenshi Yonezu
(About the special feature “Music and Fashion”)
I guess it would be “jumpsuits”. When I was shooting the music video for “LADY” last year, I started out wanting to look like a cleaner, like a work uniform. Then I ended up wearing jumpsuits. When I actually tried them on, I felt really comfortable, and I got hooked. I’m not exaggerating when I say that last year, I really only wore jumpsuits (in my personal clothes).

■ Behind-the-scenes story of JO1 Shiraiwa Ruki’s shoot
In this issue, JO1’s Shiraiwa Ruki appears wearing the latest look. She looks like she’s having a great time wearing five different brands, and it was wonderful to see her carefully and specifically talk about her favorite points about each style and item. During the interview, she even took the time to show us photos of her belongings on her smartphone when they were mentioned, and we really appreciated her attention to detail.

And when all the filming and interviews were finished, something even more memorable happened. When we handed him some snacks that we had prepared on the table for him to snack on, saying, “If you’d like, please take some home,” Shiraiwa suddenly smiled and happily began choosing, saying, “Really? Which one should I get?” We thought he would just put them in his bag, but instead he handed them all to the staff around him, saying, “Here you go! Have some.” The GINZA staff, who had assumed he was selecting them for himself, were completely moved. Of course, Shiraiwa was given plenty to take home afterwards.
