■ “I thought about it every day, and kept thinking about it right up until the very last minute, but everyone was so supportive and I think we were able to create something really good.” (Ninomiya Kazunari)
The Sunday Drama “Black Pean Season 2” starring Ninomiya Kazunari, which airs every Sunday from 9:00 p.m. on TBS, will finally air its final episode on September 15th.
Ahead of the much-anticipated final episode, we have received photos and comments from the cast including lead actor Ninomiya Kazunari, Takeuchi Ryoma, Aoi Wakana, Kim Mu-jun, Koizumi Kotaro, and Uchino Masaaki after wrapping up filming.
The lead actor, Kazunari Ninomiya, wrapped up filming with the location scene of the final episode. Regarding the five-month shoot, he commented, “I thought about it every day, and I kept thinking about it until the very last minute, but everyone was able to respond to that, and I think we were able to create something really good.”
He also reflected on the fact that his first leading role in a Sunday Theatre drama was in “Black Pean” six years ago, and vowed, “”Black Pean” six years ago was the first drama I was able to appear in at a Sunday Theatre drama. I would like to work hard with the goal of returning to a Sunday Theatre drama again.”
Furthermore, Kim Mu-jun, who had already wrapped up filming, made a surprise appearance. Ninomiya, who thought he had returned to Korea, was surprised and exclaimed, “What are you doing here?”
Also, Takeuchi, who was unable to come to the location due to another job, congratulated Ninomiya on finishing up the shoot via video call. It was an impressive wrap-up, showing how much the cast loved and adored him.
The best friends, Takeuchi, who plays Sera Masashi, and Kim Mu-jun, who plays Park Min-jae, wrapped up filming together in the final scene of the final episode.
Takeuchi looked back on the long-term filming and said, “It was a tough shoot, as I expected (laughs). But I think we were able to get through it because of the team we had,” with a look of accomplishment on his face.
Kim Mu-jung commented with a smile, “I am very honored to be shooting the final scene of ‘Black Pean’ in this final shoot. Above all, I feel very happy and special to be able to finish filming with Ryoma hyung, who was with me on my first shoot.”
Aoi, who plays Hanabusa Miwa, was up in a scene with Takeuchi. She said, “Being able to continue from season 1 to season 2 is something that doesn’t happen often in a professional career, so I feel honored and grateful for this opportunity.” She also gave a moment of encouragement to Takeuchi, who had many scenes with her and still had filming to do.
Next, Koizumi Kotaro, who plays Takashina Gonta, said, “I had the opportunity to appear in ‘Black Pean Season 2’. It is a production that I really love, and I feel that this time around too, it has become a production that I have a lot of attachment to. I think this is a drama that gives you a wonderful sense of what is beyond Japanese medical care and cutting-edge medical care.” He concluded filming with mixed emotions.
Also, at Takanashi’s request, there was a commemorative shot with Snipe and Snipe 2.0, which are two of Takanashi’s signature shots. It was a friendly close-up.
Uchino, who plays Saeki Seigo, wrapped up filming with an operating room scene. He concluded by saying, “I was able to get this far thanks to the encouragement I received from everyone, who was treasuring every single cut and working hard even though it was tough. I had a lot of fun meeting so many talented people, including Nino, and other wonderful co-stars. Thank you very much!” He and Ninomiya were also seen hugging each other and praising each other.
■Comments after filming
◇Kazunari Ninomiya
Thank you very much. It started in April, and Producer Iyoda told me that it would be finished before Obon… and before I knew it, September was approaching (laughs).
Personally, there are many things I need to reflect on, and I have always thought about how I could have improved it and made it more entertaining. I thought about it every day, and kept thinking about it until the very last minute, but everyone responded to that, and I think we were able to create something really good.
“Black Pean” six years ago was the first time I was able to appear on Sunday Theatre. I would like to work hard with the goal of returning to Sunday Theatre.
I think you all still have a little bit of filming left, so I hope you will do your best until the end.
For now, I’ll be off. Thank you for your hard work!◇Ryoma Takeuchi
Thank you for your hard work. It was a tough shoot just as I expected (laughs).
However, I think we were able to get through it because of this team.
There are still a few more days of filming left, but please stay vigorously until the very end and make sure to finish the shoot well together with Ninomiya-kun! I’ll be off now! Thank you very much!◇ Wakana Aoi
Thank you to everyone for your hard work. I don’t think it’s often in a professional life that you can appear in season 2 continuing from season 1, so I feel honored and grateful for this opportunity. I’m sure it was a tough shoot, but thank you to everyone for your hard work. Thank you very much!◇Kim Mu-jun
Hello, this is Kim Mu-jun. This was the last shoot for “Black Pean”. And it was a great honor to be filming the final scene of “Black Pean” on the last shoot. Above all, I feel very happy and special to be able to finish the shoot with Ryoma-hyung, who was with me on the first shoot.
Thank you very much for loving “Black Pean” until now.
(※In Japanese) I still can’t believe that (filming is over). Thank you so much to all the actors, directors, and staff for your hard work!◇ Kotaro Koizumi
I’m sure everyone had a really tough time in the second half with the grueling schedule and continuous operation scenes.
However, for me the final scene was shot in such a beautiful setting that it felt like I was filming a completely different drama… (laughs).
Once again, I was honored to appear in “Black Pean Season 2.” It is a work that I love very much, and I feel that this time too has become a work that I feel very attached to.
I think this drama made me feel the wonderful future of Japanese medicine and cutting-edge medicine. I’m really grateful for all your help. Thank you very much.◇Masaaki Uchino
I’m really exhausted (laughs). I struggled with the tight schedule, and I think I could have acted better if I had prepared more, but seeing everyone working hard, treasuring every single cut despite the tough filming every day, and working hard even though it was tough, encouraged me and helped me get to this point.
It was so much fun meeting so many talented people, including Nino and the other wonderful co-stars. Thank you so much!
It was a wonderful encounter to meet the chief coach, Nishiura Masaki, and meeting the young coaches Ito and Kato was also a really interesting experience.
I really think that Sunday Theatre is a monumental achievement for Japanese TV dramas, a wonderful drama slot that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Filming is still ongoing, so it’s tough on set, but there are a lot of viewers who are looking forward to it, so be proud, don’t give up, and keep doing your best!
From now on, I will be cheering you on as a fan again! Thank you very much! I’ll be off now!
■ Synopsis of the final episode (broadcast on September 15th)
During Amagi’s (Ninomiya Kazunari) public surgery at the International Congress of Cardiac Surgery, the patient Tokunaga (Inoue Hajime) suddenly rose in temperature and developed malignant hyperthermia when the internal thoracic artery was about to be dissected. However, there was no medicine to suppress malignant hyperthermia. Amagi, whose mother’s nightmare overlaps with his own, decides to perform an extremely risky operation in which he uses a heart-lung machine during the bypass surgery, and Takashina (Koizumi Kotaro) supports him. However, all three coronary arteries used to create the bypass for the patient Tokunaga have been severed. What on earth could the scars from the operation mean?
Shingyoji (Ishizaka Koji), who was at the venue, advises Amagi to cancel the operation on behalf of the society. However, Saeki (Uchino Masaaki) urges him to continue the operation and tells Amagi the true purpose of establishing the new hospital.
At the same time, Yui (Horikoshi Reika) at Tojo University develops acute mitral regurgitation. In a very dangerous condition, Sera (Takeuchi Ryoma) performs an emergency operation using a Snipe with the assistance of Kurosaki (Hashimoto Satoshi). However, an unexpected accident occurs.
Two operations take place simultaneously under the worst possible circumstances. What will become of these two?
In addition, the whole truth about the sealed Direct Anastomosis and the meaning of the broken Black Pean promise will be revealed.
And now the stage is back in Australia…
