Ikuta Rira’s new song “Sign” was released digitally on September 16th. This song was written as the theme song for the original drama series “Transparent Us,” which will begin streaming for free on ABEMA from 11pm on September 16th. The song expresses the feelings of “placelessness” and “loneliness” felt by modern young people, as depicted in the drama, with a slow, gentle melody. Please pay attention to the lyrics that link with the content of the drama, and to Ikuta’s singing voice, which is full of expressions that she has never used before.
Ikuta Rira is also active as ikura, the vocalist of YOASOBI, a unit that turns novels into music. In the movie “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction,” she played the lead role of the protagonist, Koyama Kado, and co-starred with ano, who sang the theme song for the film. The ABEMA original drama series “Transparent Us” is written and directed by Yusaku Matsumoto, who worked on the films “Winny” and “It’s All My Fault,” and produced by Michihito Fujii, who worked on the films “The Yakuza and the Family” and “True Identity.” The two directors, who have worked on many socially conscious works, have produced a drama with a completely original script. The cast includes Haruka Fukuhara, who plays the lead role, and other talented actors in their 20s who are the same generation as Fukuhara and have an indispensable presence in domestic dramas and films, such as Karin Ono, Kentaro Ito, Yuki Kura, and Rena Takeda, who sympathize with the theme of “a work that captures the ‘now’ of young people in their 20s who feel like they don’t belong somewhere.” This socially conscious ensemble suspense drama is set in Tokyo and Toyama, and is the first collaboration between Haruka Fukuhara, Yusaku Matsumoto, and Michihito Fujii.

I wrote a song called “Sign” as the theme song.
After reading the script for the drama and watching the actual footage, I was touched by the conflicts and frustration that Aoi and the others experience through the incident, as well as the thoughts they derive from that. I wanted to create a song that connects with my own reality, as someone from a similar generation.
Each person has their own sense of justice, and while they may make mistakes at times, they continue to desperately search for who they are. I hope that this song, “Sign,” can become a song that grows with them with each episode. Thank you.
