NHK’s music program “The Covers” is now in its 11th year on the air. The special that will be broadcast on General TV on October 3rd is titled “Akina Nakamori Night!” and will feature the timeless singer Akina Nakamori.

Since her debut in 1982, Akina Nakamori has been loved for her overwhelming singing voice and presence. In 2022, she will celebrate her 40th anniversary since her debut and will open her own website. She will be releasing self-cover videos and holding a fan club event in the summer of 2024. Now, more than 40 years after her debut, her singing voice is once again in demand. The program will focus on Akina Nakamori’s masterpieces that have been sung by generations.

The covers guests are Hiromi Go and GLIM SPANKY.

Hiromi Go, the King of J-POP, who has been through the same era as Akina Nakamori since his debut in 1972, covers Akina’s biggest hit “Second Love”. He talks passionately about the charm he felt for Akina at the time and his feelings for this song. GLIM SPANKY, a rock unit celebrating their 10th anniversary since their debut, performs the masterpiece “1/2 no Shinwa”, which is filled with both the “pure and rebellious” sides of Akina’s early works, with a tight band sound.

Additionally, Reiwa songstress Ado will talk about her respect for Akina Nakamori, who is her starting point, and the influence she has had as a singer.

And what’s more, we’ll also introduce a very precious special message from “Akina Nakamori herself”! Akina Nakamori herself loves covers, and has covered many famous songs, as well as self-covers with her diverse expressiveness. What are her thoughts on covers and her message to the performers?
