Yorushika’s new song “Taiyou” will be the theme song for the movie “Seitai” starring Yokohama Ryusei

Yorushika’s new song “Taiyou” has been chosen as the theme song for the movie “Seitai” starring Yokohama Ryusei.

“Seitai” (True Identity), which will be released nationwide from November 29th, is a suspense entertainment film based on the novel of the same name by Somei Tamehito. It depicts a detective chasing an escaped murder suspect, who encounters a new personality that seems like a completely different person from the people he meets on the run. The film is directed by Fujii Michihito. The lead role is played by Yokohama Ryusei. Co-stars include Yoshioka Riho, SixTONES’ Morimoto Shintaro, Yamada Anna, and Yamada Takayuki.

Yorushika is known for their narrative songs, and the lyrics of this song “Taiyou” also seem to gently comfort the protagonist Kaburagi, played by Yokohama Ryusei, who is on the run.

Furthermore, Yokohama Ryusei, who listened to the song during an official interview, commented, “Both myself and Director Fujii like Yorushika, and I’m really grateful that they took on the project and created and sang such a perfect, comforting song for this work.”

The trailer, which was also released, gives us a sneak peek at a portion of the theme song, “Taiyou.”

Q: About your decision to sing the theme song for this film
I always feel the weight of being involved in someone else’s work. There is a fear that the theme song that plays at the end of a movie can erase the aftertaste of the work with just the first note. I felt that fear especially when I read the script for this movie. What made an impression on me during the meeting with the director was the word “hymn.” I carefully crafted it so as not to destroy the message I received.

Q: What are your thoughts behind the theme song “Taiyou”?
I wrote the lyrics with the sun as the motif, likening the sunlight to butterfly wings. The production started from looking for commonalities between what Yorushika wants to create now and the movie. I hope that the finished product will harmonize with the aftertaste of the movie, “Sekai”.
