Kenichi Mikawa has released the music video for his single “Kore ga Yoshi to Suru,” which was released on September 25th to commemorate his 60th anniversary since his debut.
“Kore o yosi suru” is a medium tempo song that sings about a natural way of life, composed by Takahiro Matsumoto of B’z and written by TAKURO of GLAY. The coupling song “Hana shiredo tsuki wa kagaya” is a four-beat major song that expresses the feelings of a girl who is starting to walk the same path as her mother, with dreams in her heart.
In commemoration of the release, a digital campaign is also being held in which anyone who registers “This is Good Enough” in their library on eligible subscription services will receive a “Mikawa Kenichi Lucky Wallpaper Image.”
Regarding the wallpaper image that came as a gift, Mikawa commented, “You’ll be blessed if you use my photo as your smartphone wallpaper. You should definitely make it your wallpaper. You’ve listened to the new song, of course, right? I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.”
■ Comment from Takahiro Matsumoto (B’z)
I was approached about this project last May at a Chinese restaurant in LA.
I thought it would be an honor to be asked to write a single commemorating the 60th anniversary of Mikawa’s debut, so I answered immediately.
It took several months for Mikawa-san and I to come up with an image of what kind of music we could create, and we started actually writing the music in October, after which we made repeated improvements until we finally completed it.
I’m proud that this is a sound that’s different from anything we’ve had with Mikawa up until now.
TAKURO’s lyrics are also wonderful.
I would be happy if a wide range of people could listen to it.■TAKURO (GLAY) Comment
My name is TAKURO, the guitarist for GLAY, and I have been asked to provide lyrics for two songs for the commemorative year marking 60 years since Kenichi Mikawa’s career as a singer.
I have been friends with Mikawa-san for some time, but this time I was invited by Matsumoto-san of B’z to join the music production team.
I wrote the lyrics for “This is Good Enough” while imagining Mikawa-san’s humor and her sharp perspective on the human world.
Since I was used to hearing his kind words but also accurate criticism of the world, the words came to me smoothly.
On the other hand, “The Flowers Fall But the Moon Shines” was quite difficult to produce.
Feeling the pressure of celebrating his 60th anniversary as a singer, I struggled to create something that would satisfy people. After much deliberation, Mikawa-san gave me some advice: “Just write what you want to write.” This opened a new door for me, and I was able to complete the lyrics as if I was taking a journey through Mikawa-san’s life so far.
I am very grateful for this valuable opportunity. I learned a lot.
Once again, congratulations on your 60th anniversary. I hope we can continue to hear your wonderful voice for many years to come.
