The theatrical release date of the movie “We Can Use Magic Only Once in a Lifetime,” starring Yusei Yagi of FANTASTICS, has been set for February 21, 2025. At the same time, the teaser visual and special video for this work, as well as the five supporting cast members, were released.
This work is the first live-action film adaptation of Osamu Suzuki’s reading play of the same name, which has been replayed many times since its premiere in 2019. Suzuki wrote the screenplay for this mysterious, heartbreaking and gentle coming-of-age film that takes place in a small village surrounded by lush nature.
The special video shows the main character, Akito (Yusei Yagi), who has a talent for playing the piano, but is hesitant about leaving his hometown with his friends and going to music college, and is conflicted by his father’s strong opposition. ) and other four young men.
Haruhi (Yuki Inoue), who was born with a weak body and grew up being protected by her friends; Natsuki (Umin Sakurai), who has given up on her dream of becoming a soccer player and is unable to accept the kind words of her friends; Yukio (Tsubaki Taiga / IMP.) is the group’s mood maker and an innocent person.
One day, four young men dressed in uniforms are suddenly told the village’s “secret” that has been passed down from generation to generation. The men of this village, which is rich in nature with flowers and plants, say that once they reach the age of 18, they can use magic only once in their lives. Akito and his friends look incredulous, but at the turning point of their lives at the age of 18, each of them has their own conflicts, and while they are seriously worried and at times clash violently, they continue to use magic with one wish. The role of Shinya, Akito’s father, will be played by Seiichi Tanabe, who not only plays a wide range of roles in movies and on stage, but also works as a film director and illustration artist.
Shinya once moved to Tokyo with the aim of becoming a professional musician, but had the bitter experience of failing. Tanabe delicately expresses the complex feelings of a parent who strongly opposes Akito going to music college because he doesn’t want his son to feel the same way.
Veteran actor Takashi Sasano plays the role of Old Man Tetsu, the key person who reveals to Akito and his friends the secret that they can only use magic once in their lives.
Currently, he is actively working, appearing in many movies and plays, and regularly appearing on “Ningen Observation Variety Monitoring” (TBS TV). Old Man Tetsu, played by Sasano, brings a profound feeling to the work as he plays a role that knows all the truth about magic.
The role of Eiji, Yukio’s father, is played by Kannin Takeyama, who is active in various fields as a comedian, commentator, and actor.
When his son, who respects Eiji, who is the president of a construction company, finds out a secret, they become distant from each other, but behind that secret lies his true feelings for Eiji… The film carefully portrays the feelings of a parent and child who care for each other but still pass each other.
The person who will play the role of Natsuki’s father, Kazuo, will also appear in the drama series “Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea” (TBS), which will start broadcasting on October 20th, and has been a famous actor in many movies and dramas. Ryohei Abe has been active as a supporting player.
