Tsuyoshi Domoto shows off his true character in the scene where he draws “Maru”! Making photos of the movie “Maru” released

■Tsuyoshi Domoto draws a perfectly balanced “〇” on the first shot and receives generous praise from the staff.

Additional making photos of Tsuyoshi Domoto’s first solo movie in 27 years, “Maru” (now in theaters), have been released. The newly released behind-the-scenes photos show Domoto facing “〇” and other paintings that appear in the play.

In the scene at the beginning of the movie that takes place in the atelier of contemporary artist Yoji Akimoto, played by Kotaro Yoshida, Sawada, played by Domoto, Yajima, played by Riho Yoshioka, and the new assistant Tanaka, played by Junki Totsuka, are actually painting the canvas with oil paint. However, during the rehearsal stage, they learned the movements and timing by pretending to paint.

Domoto asked his painting instructor, Tomoyuki Hyakuta, for advice as appropriate, and checked the technique and movement of the brush strokes while sliding a dry brush across the canvas. Sawada has been drawing for a long time, and his “action” style has become ingrained in his body.

This work was shot on 16mm film, and director Ogigami preferred the freshness of the play in the first take, so he did not tend to repeat many takes. Even amid such tension, Domoto is smiling in front of a large painting in the newly released photo.

By the way, Yoshida, who played the role of Akimoto, only participated on this day in terms of the number of scenes, but while he shared the joy of co-starring with his old friend Yoshioka again and excited the scene, in the play he played the role of Akimoto, who was grumpy and hot. He embodies the “artist’s temperament” while adding a touch of flavor, giving it a unique spiciness.

Sawada’s room, where Sawada draws many “○”s, is a room in an old apartment building in Yokohama, which the art staff decorated in its entirety, turning it into a studio and residence. One of the highlights of this work is the sight of Sawada drawing “O” in every direction in the room carefully designed by the staff. Even in a tense scene, Domoto draws a perfectly balanced “〇” from the first shot. The staff members generously praised Domoto, who showed his true potential during the performance.
