■Create a queen bee artificially and connect lives!
DASH base on the rooftop of Shinjuku, Tokyo. In order to attract Japanese honey bees, a native species that is on the verge of extinction in big cities, we built hives from scratch, prepared the environment, and over the course of five years, approximately 8,000 honeybees arrived on Shinjuku’s rooftops.
However, the honeybee population, which should continue to increase in number, is in danger of extinction this summer. “It’s really dead!” Kokubun and his friends rushed to the rooftop after hearing something strange. What they witnessed was Japanese bees that had been attacked by their natural enemy, the Western honey bee, and had their honey stolen and died. There were two hives. The hives of the second generation queen bee family were almost completely wiped out.
With the help of bee expert Ayumi Fujiwara, they were able to protect the hive of the first generation queen bee family, but the first generation queen bee only has six months to live. I want to connect my bloodline somehow before my life ends.
The secret to achieving this is to create an artificial queen bee. Kokubun, who is trying for the first time, tries to become the first celebrity in the entertainment industry to achieve this feat, saying, “Maybe I’m the only celebrity who did it?” Will we be able to connect Shinjuku honeybees after five years by making full use of traditional beekeeping techniques?
Furthermore, everyone is rushing to prepare for winter for the bees, who don’t like the cold. This year, they started to surround the beehive with straw grown on a rooftop in Shinjuku, but Matsuda, who was in charge last year, forgot how to tie the straw and was in a big pinch, wondering, “Wow! What the heck is that?”
After work, everyone makes their own popular sweets using the threshed wheat and honey. What are the lucky charm sweets devised by Kokubu that will improve your future prospects?
