Shingo Katori & Jun Shison’s drama “Japan’s Worst Man *My Family Was Fake” is in! Comments have also arrived

■“I really feel like, “Ah, I’m doing a drama series.” (Shingo Katori)

Fuji TV’s Thursday Theater “Japan’s Worst Man *My Family Was a Fake” starring Shingo Katori (starting January 9, 2025) has begun filming at a filming studio in Tokyo.

The film is about the main character, Ippei Omori (Shingo Katori), who lives with his single father brother-in-law Masasuke Ohara (Jun Shison) and his children in order to improve his image in order to win the ward assembly election. This “election and fake family drama” depicts a completely original story filled with laughter and tears, as he gradually begins to seriously face his family’s problems and eventually stands up to change society. This is the first time in about 11 years that Katori has starred in a Fuji TV drama series.

The first day of filming began with the opening scene of the first episode, where Ippei is alone in his work room at home, talking to someone on the phone. Ippei’s fearless expression, as if he was plotting something, is impressive, and it is an important scene that subtly conveys Ippei’s “worst manhood” qualities.

While preparations for cameras and lighting were underway, Katori arrived on set looking a little embarrassed. When the staff introduced him, saying, “This is Shingo Katori, the lead actor!”, he greeted with a smile and said, “Thank you very much!” . Director Takuro Oikawa then emphatically declared, “Let’s keep our hearts warm and work hard to create things!” Katori, who was standing next to him, also looked tense.

Once filming began, Katori carefully put together her performance, paying particular attention to facial movements and minute movements while interacting with director Oikawa and other staff members. It was the first scene where you could tell that he was really enjoying himself, thinking about how he would play the role of the “worst man” for the first time.

After that, Katori finished shooting a few scenes by herself, and Shison finally joined in with the two child actors. The first scene that Shison shot that day was the scene where Shosuke and the children visit Ippei’s home and the four of them meet for the first time.

Shison naturally plays the role of a single father for the first time, and filming is progressing smoothly. In addition, Shison enjoys chatting with the children even when the cameras are not rolling, such as during breaks between shots. And Katori watches from a distance with a smile on his face.

Contrary to the tense atmosphere of the “fake family” depicted in the beginning of the drama, there was always a calm atmosphere in the studio.

Incorporating social themes unique to the current era, each episode depicts the struggle of “Japan’s Worst Man” to change his family, society, and Japan. was a fake.” Let’s look forward to the broadcast of “Election & Fake Family Drama”, which has been successfully filmed and is now in production.

Q.After cranking in
It’s a very lively site, and I’m very happy to think that I’ll be able to work there for the next three months. I really feel like, “Oh, I’m doing a TV series.” That’s why even now, when I’m suddenly asked for a comment, I’m like, “Oh yeah, this is how it feels, this is how it feels” (lol). This kind of hectic feeling feels a little nostalgic.
Also, when I entered the scene, I was surprised by the “Omori family” set. From the moment we shot the first scene, I couldn’t stop being excited, knowing that a “fake home drama” was about to unfold in this wonderfully crafted set of a house. I think it’s going to be a drama filled with all kinds of emotions, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Q. Do you find it difficult to play the role of “the worst man”?
Honestly, I think he’s become the worst guy so well that you’re wondering, “Is it okay to be this bad?” (lol)! For example, they have a very cold attitude toward children. Usually, when you think of Shingo Katori acting with children, you might think of him as smiling and kind, but this time, I think he’ll be able to show an expression that we haven’t seen before. Well, to be more precise, Ippei is the type of person who smiles in front of his children, but when no one is looking, he thinks about the worst things and makes the worst faces. But (laughs). Anyway, it’s really fun to play.

Q. How was your first collaboration with Jun Shison?
It looks like this is the first time we’ve met. When we met for the first time, I was greeted with a “Nice to meet you.” I’ve performed with quite a lot of people, so I thought we might have worked together before, so I asked, “Are you sure it’s nice to meet you?” and they said, “Yes, it’s nice to meet you!” . That’s why I also wonder if it would be better to use honorific language (lol), and I would like to build a solid relationship with them from now on.
But, more than that, the actor named Jun Shison is just so cool (lol)! As a viewer, I’ve seen him through various works, but he’s much cooler in real life than on the screen!

Q.After cranking in
It’s been a long time since I’ve appeared in a drama series, so it’s refreshing, and the unique point of this work is that there are many scenes with children. It’s really fun to shoot with my two children.

Q.What do you keep in mind when playing Masasuke Ohara?
Since his wife died, Masasuke has been working hard while raising two children on his own, but how can he balance the work he wants to do with the childcare he has to do? He is a character who is always in conflict and is troubled by this problem. However, he is a positive person who never gives up and is always looking for his own way out. And very kind. If it were me, I think I would have exploded by now (lol). So in the future, I hope to be able to properly express Shosuke’s kindness and delicacy.

Q. How was your first collaboration with Shingo Katori?
Even before I started working on it, I had read the script quite a bit and had my own image of the character Ippei, but when I actually saw Katori-san playing Ippei, I thought, “Wow!! Wow, this is Ippei-san.” I was impressed!
Mr. Katori’s human strength is directly reflected in Mr. Ippei, and although the character of Ippei is unpleasant, he is extremely attractive. Anyway, I enjoy the time we spend acting together.
Personally, I think Katori’s way of pausing, speaking, and looking at each other are the best, and if I let my guard down, I’ll burst into laughter, so I always try to keep the tension going (lol)
