Kosetsu Minami, who will celebrate his 55th anniversary since his debut in 2024, will appear for the first time as a solo on “SONGS” (NHK General), which will be broadcast on December 12th. Appeared as Shozo ~Himekaze~).
“Kandagawa”, released in 1973, sold over 2 million copies, and went on to produce many hit songs such as “Akachochin” and “Imouto”, and became the first Japanese solo artist to perform at the Budokan concert. Known as Kosetsu Minami.
Furthermore, they have set a monumental milestone in the Japanese music world as the standard-bearer of the folk song world, holding the all-night outdoor concert “Summer Picnic,” which is said to be the start of summer festivals.
However, the program director Hiroshi Oizumi approaches the “suffering caused by gaining popularity” behind the scenes.
This time, for “SONGS,” we shot on location in Oita, where Kosetsu Minami still lives, in order to learn about the rural life he chose after suffering. What is the joy of singing naturally and what is the meaning of playing music, something that has been achieved through more than half a century of activity?
In the studio performance, they performed “Kandagawa”, “Ue o Muete Arukou”, and “Kokoro no Niji”. In 2024, the 75-year-old will be participating in the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen for the 6th time in 27 years, so keep an eye out for the soulful songs he will perform.
