■“It was lonely, but I thought it would be good.” (Kazumasa Oda)
Kazumasa Oda’s annual Christmas music special program “Christmas Promise 2024”.
“Christmas Promise” began with a letter from Oda requesting an artist to collaborate with him. In 2024, which marks 24 years since the broadcast began in 2001 and can be said to be the 20th broadcast, recording was held at KT Zepp Yokohama in Yokohama, Oda’s hometown. Approximately 1,000 people gathered at the venue for his first KT Zepp Yokohama event, selected by lottery from over 200,000 postcards submitted to view the event, the largest number in the program’s history.
Oda appeared on stage to a round of applause, then slowly looked around the audience and greeted, “Thank you! Sorry to have kept you waiting!” They called out the names of each performing artist and welcomed them to the stage, shook hands firmly, and performed “Waiting for the Wind” together.
After that, Oda, who remained alone on stage, began to speak slowly, saying, “I have something important to say, so I would like to read it to you.”
“‘The Promise of Christmas’ was a program that was supposed to be a one-time show. That’s because of the staff who fought so hard, the artists who love music, and most of all, the viewers who looked forward to the broadcast. There were many times when I felt like giving up, but looking back now, all of them are happy memories.
There are so many artists that I would never have met if I hadn’t done “A Promise of Christmas”. And it was because of the artist friends who created the program with me that I was able to create the program that I aimed for. It was an irreplaceable time in my musical life. I’m glad I continued. I truly believe that now.
I decided to end the show while I could get people to say they were looking forward to “The Promise of Christmas.” I felt sad, but I thought it would be a good idea. Thank you so much everyone. thank you very much”
When I told him that this would be his last broadcast, he said, “I want to do this, which was the first song I sang in the first episode (“Christmas Promise 2001”),” and performed “I Can’t Put It Into Words.”
After performing two songs, Oda grabbed his guitar and said, “I’m more nervous than I expected, so I’d like to practice a little so that everyone can sing properly.” He called on the audience to sing, and said, “It’s true.” She sang and smiled along with the audience.
The program will broadcast a valuable archive that looks back on the 20-year history of “A Promise of Christmas.” Regardless of whether it’s Western or Japanese music, we’ll be delivering a wide range of famous songs that we want to sing and pass on to the next generation.
During the first broadcast, the group performed the newly written song “Kono Hi no Koto”, which was about the show’s theme of “artists celebrating each other”, and then got off the stage, but Oda responded to the audience’s encore. Appear on stage. The audience then sang along to “Kira Kira Kira” and “Love Story wa Sudden” with the entire venue, and the recording ended to endless applause.
