Rira Ikuta will release her new song “Humming” on June 1st. The music video will premiere at 8pm on the same day.

“Humming” is a song written by Ikuta Rira as the new theme song for Fuji TV’s “Mezamashi Doyoubi.”

With the theme of “Saturday,” the song gently accompanies mornings that begin in different ways for different people, some enjoying their day off while others get up and get going with work or school.

Also noteworthy are the lyrics, which talk about the importance of being kind to oneself, something that we tend to forget in our daily lives.

The cover art for the song is based on a photo of a cat stretching out in the sunshine and yawning, which is the inspiration for the lyrics. The photo was taken by Ikuta herself, and she even hand-wrote the word “Humming” in the song title.

The music video, which will be released at 8:00 pm on June 1st, was shot entirely on an 8mm film camera. It is a warm video that accompanies each morning, when we wake up with a variety of emotions during our hectic days, and makes us feel the importance of taking a moment to “breathe” in our daily lives.

The film was directed and photographed by photographer and filmmaker Masuda Saki, who has been a friend of Ikuta’s since their teenage years and who also shot the cover of her 2019 mini-album, “Jukebox.”
