I read the comic because I was drawn to the straightforward title “Ikinari Marriage,” and then I read the novel it’s based on, and I thought, “I want to make this into a drama!” and made a plan. In making this into a drama, I would like to cherish the characters and their feelings that are important in the original work, and express a deep human drama in the form of images.
The main character, Mao Koshiba, is not a “super heroine” who takes the initiative to change the world around her. However, she is a woman who has sincerely focused on what is within her reach, including her daily work, interpersonal relationships, and daily life and housework. I asked Kyoko Saito to play this role, which I want many people to empathize with, because I felt that her purity and natural expression would fit perfectly. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to appear and star in a drama for the first time after graduating from the group, and I am truly humbled.
Hajime Ando, on the other hand, is truly a “superhero who seems to have jumped out of two dimensions”. When I was thinking about casting that would be acceptable to everyone for the live-action version, Yu Shirota came to mind. When he said, “I think this is the last time I’ll be starring in a romantic drama in my life,” I was honestly surprised at how determined he was.
