■“Requirements for an Entertainer 2” includes columns related to “stage production”, and “Entertainer Conditions 3” includes columns related to “music activities” and “entertainment and society”!
Koichi Domoto releases column collections “Conditions of an Entertainer 2” and “Conditions of an Entertainer 3”.
This book is a compilation of the column “Conditions of an Entertainer” that Domoto has been serializing in the monthly magazine “Nikkei Entertainment!” (Nikkei BP) since 2013. Since it was published as a book in 2016, in response to many requests for a sequel, about eight years worth of columns have been re-edited, and two volumes will be simultaneously published by Nikkei BP on February 22, 2025.
The columns are broadly divided into those related to “stage production” and those related to “music activities” and “entertainment and society.” The former includes 44 books in the second volume, “Entertainer Conditions 2”. 46 of the latter are included in Volume 3, “Entertainer Conditions 3”.
Each volume has over 70 photo pages, including behind-the-scenes photos taken only by the editorial department and highlights of the gravure shots published in each issue. A set of photocards selected from the gravure series (3-card set with different designs for each volume) is also included.
In “Entertainer Conditions 2,” he explains the key points of how to create the play “Endless SHOCK,” which he has performed for 25 years, by theme, such as “Japanese drums,” “illusions,” and “sound creation.” The play ended its long history in November 2024, breaking the “record for a single leading role in a domestic play” with a total of 2,128 performances, but Domoto’s words explain why it never got into a rut.
I also learned from working with juniors, who have been increasing in recent years, such as Katsutoshi Sato, Shota Watanabe, Shintaro Morimoto, and many juniors.
“Entertainer Conditions 3” covers encounters, discoveries, confusions, and points of reflection through KinKi Kids and solo music activities. “Positive change in thinking” in response to numerous difficulties has many ideas that can be used as reference in business situations, and the editorial department has received many feedback from people who say that the book was “useful for improving interpersonal relationships and increasing motivation in the workplace.”
Domoto also spoke out in detail about the incompatibility between social issues such as work style reform and the creation of works. He reveals the struggles he faces as an entertainer from a calm and honest perspective. Furthermore, he also thinks about people who are irreplaceable to him, such as Takuro Yoshida, Shonentai, and Tomoya Nagase.
Domoto says, “As time has passed, my own values and ideas have changed.” Combined with these changes in his state of mind, this is a valuable record of his activities.
