■The largest K-POP award “39th GOLDEN DISC AWARDS” will be broadcast exclusively and free in Japan on ABEMA!
The 39th GOLDEN DISC AWARDS, one of the largest K-POP awards, will be broadcast exclusively and free in Japan on ABEMA from 9pm on January 6th and 7th.
“GOLDEN DISC AWARDS” is a major event that boasts history, tradition, and trust among the many K-POP awards in Korea. In order to select Korean popular music that received great love from many listeners over the past year, the winners were determined by adding up objective results such as the number of digital sound source downloads and album sales. In particular, the highest honor, the Grand Prize, has been awarded to many talented and popular K-pop artists such as TVXQ, SUPER JUNIOR, Girls’ Generation, BIGBANG, TWICE, and BTS.
This time, it will be held for two days on January 4th and 5th at Mizuho PayPay Dome Fukuoka. This is the second time that the “GOLDEN DISC AWARDS” has been held in Japan, the first being the 26th Kyocera Dome Osaka in 2012, and the first time in 13 years.
Interviews with Yuki Kashiwagi and Kamichii Gerardon, who appeared on ABEMA’s special program “[GDA]Charm Dissection SP Presented by Talents Who Love K-POP”, have arrived. The content is packed with noteworthy statements such as Yuki Kashiwagi’s thoughts on LE SSERAFIM’s SAKURA’s success.
“The 39th GOLDEN DISC AWARDS” will be broadcast exclusively and free of charge in Japan on ABEMA, with no registration required. Be sure to check out the many special stages performed by gorgeous artists.
[Interview with Yuki Kashiwagi and Kamichii of Gerardon]
–Could you please tell us the highlights for those who will be watching the “39th GOLDEN DISC AWARDS” (hereinafter referred to as “GDA”)?
Kashiwagi:There will probably be some artists who will perform in a special version only available on GDA, so I think that will be a highlight and I’m looking forward to it!
Kamichi: Yes, that’s certainly true. Moreover, the people who have been invited to “GDA” are definitely the ones who were active in 2024, so it feels like it’s a compilation of 2024, or something special.–The debut team of “PROJECT 7” (debuted as “CLOSE YOUR EYES”) will be on their “first stage.”
Kamichi:It’s my first time here, which is amazing.
Kashiwagi:It’s a dome, after all. terrible.Kamichi:It’s interesting to see the wide range of artists participating. The new kids seem to click. It’s not like I haven’t played yet. It felt like I was properly showing off what I had prepared. So my brother and sister feel like they have a little more leeway.
Kashiwagi:Yeah, it feels like I’m playing on stage…
Kamichi:That’s right. I’m looking forward to getting a feel for the breadth of it.
Kashiwagi:Also, even if you can’t choose your favorite K-POP artist, you’ll definitely find your favorite after watching GDA because there are so many artists appearing. Opportunities like this don’t come around very often… so I thought it would be perfect for finding your favorite groups and songs!
Kamichi:There are times when you fall in love with a performance, right?
Kashiwagi:there is! That’s completely different. It’s different from MV.
Kamichi:Performance allows you to see the individual performance, right? How do you express yourself? What kind of charm does it have? People have different tastes, whether it’s cool or cute…Once you watch GDA, you’ll already know which one you’d like (lol).――LE SSERAFIM will appear on DAY1, but SAKURA (Miyawaki Sakura), who was formerly active in the AKB48 group, will also be there. Mr. Kashiwagi, how do you view SAKURA’s success?
Kashiwagi:I’m just watching it as a fan! (lol) Junior, nothing! I thought it was amazing. He was active in HKT48 and AKB48, then debuted as IZ*ONE, and then in LE SSERAFIM… I have nothing but respect for the fact that even though she has a history as an idol, she continues to act as a newcomer every time. I’m rooting for you behind the scenes. I also like LE SSERAFIM’s songs and listen to them a lot, so I’m looking forward to their performance on the 4th (DAY1)! I also think they were active in Fukuoka quite a bit when they were in HKT, so their triumphant return is also a highlight.–Please tell us the top 5 K-POP songs that you both listened to the most in 2024.
Kashiwagi:My 5th place goes to LE SSERAFIM’s “CRAZY”. It’s a recent song, but I listen to it often. It gets me excited, so I listen to it when I go to work. It makes me feel cool and I really like it! (Laughs) And in 4th place is a song called “NEMONEMO” by former IZ*ONE member Yena.
Kamichi:“NEMONEMO”!
Kashiwagi: I also worked hard to learn how to dance, and I love it so much that I even upload it on SNS. I feel like there aren’t many solo artists who are energetic and upbeat, but I listen to them often because they give me so much energy. Third place goes to SAY MY NAME’s “WaveWay.” This is a song by the group where Hii-chan (Honda Hitomi), who was active with AKB48, made her debut. After all, I started listening to it partly because Hii-chan was there, and both the song and the music video were so cute. And I received the album from him!
Kamichi:fault!!
Kashiwagi:I really liked “WaveWay” and listened to it a lot! The second place goes to TWICE’s NAYEON’s “ABCD”. It was really cool, and I liked the cool side of it that you don’t often see in TWICE, so I listened to it. 1st place goes to aespa’s “Whiplash”. The catch-up in the second half of this year was amazing!
Kamichi: No, “Whiplash” is the best.
Kashiwagi:I’m happy because he sings on many Japanese music programs (lol). I like women’s groups, so I decided to focus on women’s groups this time. That’s what it feels like.
Kamichi:I’m sure “Whiplash” will be included as well. I listen to it too much. I ride in the car a lot, and I listened to it on my way to work…well, no matter when I listen to it, it always gets me excited!
Kashiwagi:Even if you sing it a cappella yourself, it will get you excited! (lol) Before I knew it, I was humming it!
Kamichi:I thought “Whiplash” was a bit of a hit. Also, RIIZE’s “impossible”. I don’t understand dancing (lol). It’s too early. How many steps are you going to take? It feels like a dance part all the time.
Kashiwagi: Today, I’ve been told a lot of songs that I’m really interested in (lol).
Kamichi:Also, “Steady” by NCT WISH. This is really nice too. Also, I listened to KISS OF LIFE’s “Shhh” a lot. I also listened to XG’s “SOMETHING AIN’T RIGHT” a lot this year. It’s true that there were a lot of cool songs this year. I also listened to a lot of (G)I-DLE.–By the way, among the artists appearing on “GDA,” if there are any that you’re particularly interested in, please let us know.
Kashiwagi:I really like GFRIEND. It’s probably the most downloaded song! I can even memorize the lyrics in Korean, so I’m really happy that we’ll be performing as a complete group this time.
Kamichi:For me…well, it’s a bit much… First of all, izna, NCT WISH, aespa, (G)I-DLE, ILLIT, IVE…
Kashiwagi:No, it’s sneaky! I also like IVE and other artists! (lol)
Kamichi:Sorry (lol). However, the ones I listened to the most this year were aespa, (G)I-DLE, and NCT WISH!–Thank you for sharing your story that conveys the two of you’s “love for K-POP”!
